Shocking How Well This Works
By Alex on 10/11/2015
We had a 3000sq ft yard overrun with stubborn and mature crabgrass. After one application of XLR8 the entire lot of them were wiped out and gray after about 4 days. Adjacent turf and other landscape was completely unaffected.

Good product
By Rob/bob on 12/08/2015
This product seems to be much better in killing Crab Grass than any other I have tried. This would not be my first choice on St Augustine. On Zoysia it's great. The Zoysia is very tolerant of the Drive herbicide, but St Augustine is sensitive. The Crab Grass showed damage after just a few days, and now 10 days later most Crab is brown, and the roots are obviously suffering as well. Most herbicides require several applications to actually kill Crab Grass, but I believe the impact iafter only 10 days is greater than the full impact by the others herbicides I tried. The vigor of Crab Grass makes it a hard weed to control, but Drive is giving a total kill. I happen to have St Augustine invading my Zoyzia from a neighbors property. The Drive is helping on that front as well. Where I sprayed it, the St Augustine is turning red and losing vigor. The over-growing St Augustine is not a big concern to me, but having an easy was to keep it away from my Zoyzia makes it an easy fix for me which I intend to implement.

Potent Cocktail
By Ken on 05/23/2016
Posted same review on another product.Used DyneAmic with Drive XLR8 and Certainty on newly seeded Princess 77 yard 100' x 80'. After 3 weeks, Princess and Quackweed started to emerge. Used landscaper who infected my front yard with this crap. Several areas of crabgrass also noticed. The above cocktail, properly mixed per instruction, killed the crabgrass within 4 days, and the quackgrass, one week out is now a bright yellow. Will be applying a second mixture to the quckgrass in another week just for the overkill. Princess grass still smiling.

Crab grass control

Excellent crabgrass control
By Jim on 07/07/2016
I used this on a cool-weather fescue lawn according to directions, along with a surfactant. I had a nearly 100% selective kill of crabgrass within a week. It is the best crabgrass control product that I have ever used. This lawn also had substantial areas of nimblewill (Muhlenbergia shreberi). I was worried that the product might harm this grass since it is not listed on the product label. However, it had no adverse effect on nimblewill.
good mistake
By Paul on 07/10/2016
I bought a hand sprayer that attaches to garden hose. I set the selector on the hand spray wrong. Did not set # to arrow on sprayer. Crabgrass started to die in 3 days. I used a lot more Drive XLR8. Next used a pull behind sprayer attached to mower at the correct speed and oz per acre not good. If you don't spray early in season you might want to add more. Beautiful front yard now.

Not working for me
By Rusty on 07/19/2016
Followed instructions exactly as written - used with Prime Source Duo Stick. Spot treated several areas but only had poor results. Ended up applying 3 treatments. It yellowed my bermuda but only killed about 5% of the crabgrass. Bermuda is still yellow 4 weeks later. Wasted my time and money.

Gave it 5 chances
By Bruce on 07/19/2016
I really wanted this stuff to work and have given it ample opportunity but it has not done the job. I sprayed my yard twice last year and since crabgrass continues to germinate I have sprayed 4 times this year giving a stronger dosage each time to make sure I was getting the proper amount on. My crabgrass is maybe 50% affected by Drive XRR8. It just will not kill it. I can't tell how much it worked on other weeds because I mixed 2-4D in with it so I don't know what the 2-4D killed vs Drive. But I am sorely disappointed with the claims it makes on crabgrass and I truly wanted it to work but it just does not do the job.

Not For Me
By Cesar on 07/20/2016
I have tall fescuse grass nice and green. However the back yard got a crab grass infestation. I bought this because of all the good reviews. I followed the EXACT instructions and NOTHING was killed. That includes my tall fescuse (which is a good thing)! Im going with PRE- Emergent next year!

By Hank on 07/31/2016
its July in Washington DC. Really hot and humid. Crabgrass and torpedo grass have taken over my yard. Mostly torpedo. the Drive killed the crab grass within 1 day. No questions asked. but the torpedo grass... not yet. the directions say another treatment is required in 14 days. so we'll have to wait and see

Best crabgrass killer!

It Most Certainly Works
By Greg on 08/01/2016
Mixed 2 gallons water, 6 TBsp of Drive, 8 TBsp of 2 4-D Amine (broad weed killer), and 3 TBsp of Methylated Seed Oil (recommended to increase effectiveness). Used a tank sprayer to spot treat on a lawn with Kentucky Bluegrass and fescue. It rained about 10 hours after spraying...didn't matter one bit. In ONE day the crabgrass and clover was yellowing and dying and all the other grass was totally fine. Amazed at how fast and effective it is. Highly recommended. I can't vouch for how effective it is without the seed oil, but seeing how effective it is with it, I suggest you use it. If this doesn't work for you, you're doing something wrong.

Works Great!
By Mike on 08/05/2016
I have not found anything that works better than this product. I mix 1-1/2 oz per gallon of water (6 oz per 4 gallon back pack sprayer) and just spot treat. Takes about 2-3 days before you see yellowing. I spray the crabgrass when it's a little longer and wait at least three days before I mow or water. Also helps if the grass is getting good water before you apply. Doesn't work as well when the grass is so dry/brown. Crabgrass comes in stages so multiple spot treatments work the best for me.

Crabgrass et al and Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass
By Greg on 08/09/2016
I wanted to kill the new crabgrass that has emerged in Mid-summer, even with a properly timed pre emergent treatment of Surflan at 1 gallon an acre rate sprayed between April 2 -3. At the correct time for pre emergent application and rate, I still received crabgrass sprouting in late June. I purchase Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass, Dismiss, and Gordon's Trimec 992, plus, the recommended surface adhering adjuvant -mentholated seed oil. With 10 acres of grass, I have to find a cheaper way to create my own Gordon's Q4; it only costs a $100 an gallon/acre vs $123 gallon/acre Q4 premixed. It seems that when following all the spraying prerequisites; applying 2 days after mowing, watering before and a day after treatment, with temperatures in the low 80s, and mowing a week later. Yet, I only received 60 -70 % kill of crabgrass after 10 days. This Q4 cocktail did kill all the other broad leaf and nutsedge weeds, but truly $adden by results. I don't know if Drive only kills crabgrass at the very beginning of growth phase up to 4 tiller stage? Once the new crabgrass has been mowed, who really knows it's growth stage? However, I did notice that areas that where the lawn tractor tire pressed down the grass, there was almost +95 % kill rate in those strips. This suggests that dragging a chained plastic pipe behind the 14 ' boom sprayer may cause the same phenomenon I experienced. However, what a mess to tow and not get caught up on something when spraying 10 acres. Hypothesis, the mechanical stress damage to the plant's cuticle might allow a lethal dose of Drive's ingredient, Quinclorac, into the crabgrass. Note: this same tire track treatment did not hurt any cool weather or Kentucky Bluegrass at all; all the cultivated grass stayed very robust and green. Bottom Line: More work needs to be done by the manufacturer, BASF, to enhance their products success rate with Crabgrass et al.

Goodbye crab grass!!!
By Charles on 08/12/2016
Tried Quinkill (small container) in the fall last year to experiment. Not great results, but also realize conditions for application just couldn't be met. Took the plunge and bought this (little pricey as well), and applied it exactly as label indicates for spot application in KY Bluegrass. Worked great! Chlorosis in about 2-3 days and Necrosis in about a week. Applied Thursday and Mowed Saturday. Applied in mid 80-low 90 temps. Normal irrigation up to application and then No water for 2 days afterward. Between this and speedzone, I have a 95% weed free lawn now.

Best I've found for mature crabgrass
By Dave on 08/13/2016
Better than any herbicide you can purchase at a box store. I've been fighting crabgrass for years and have tried numerous products. Pre-emergent never seem to last through the growing season and other products are not very effective on mature plants and require several applications. Noticeable results in three days and after a week I would say it is a 99% kill rate. I have 4.5 acres and only applied with 2 different boom sprayers. I properly calibrated my sprayers and mixed Drive per the manufactures recommendations. A little pricey but money well spent.

It works
By Robert on 08/14/2016
I paired the DyneAmic Surfactant with the Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer and it killed about half of the crabgrass I had in the yard in the first 14 days. The instructions say it may take up to there applications. I'm applying the second application to those areas where the crabgrass is still present today. I am extremely happy with the product thus far.
Crabby killer works
By Steve on 08/16/2016
I sprayed this around the first of Aug. I mixed around 3 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz of surfactant in 1 1/2 gal sprayer. At this time of yr. the crabgrass is in the mature stage in So. Indiana. The morning I sprayed this there was morning dew on it, with the oil surfactant it nocked the dew off and made it easier to see where I sprayed. I don't know if this made a difference in the killing effect, but in 2 days you could see it was stressed. Now it is the Aug. 16 and what I sprayed is dead and not sprouting it's seeds. I have bought a lot of different chemicals from "Do My Own" and pretty well everything I have bought works as is described. Some of the mixing instructions could be better in mixing small amounts, but that comes from the companys that produce products. I will never buy expensive Bayer products again. I tried their crabgrass and weed killer first and crabby just laughed at what I wasted my money on.

Drive with/without surfactant
By Rick on 08/24/2016
I have a huge back yard with a lot of crabgrass. I purchased Drive last year, and it didn't kill very much of the weed. I'm sure it was because I didn't use a surfactant. This year I mixed a surfactant with the Drive and what a difference! You will get much better results from Drive with a surfactant.

This stuff works, period.
By Mike on 08/27/2016
I followed the directions closely & used a surfactant. I made sure we had some rain first & I didn't mow. I applied it, and then we had some more rain in the days following. Within a week, the crabgrass was brown & crispy. It even rained very lightly within 12 hours of applying it & it still worked great (the label says wait at least 24 hrs. before watering). I would highly recommend this product.

Murders crabgrass!
By Daniel on 08/27/2016
I had a huge crabgrass outbreak and this product was incredibly effective in killing it off quickly. Most of my crabgrass was 5+ tiller. I used a pump sprayer and spot sprayed my whole yard. Only spots of my mixed lawn with fine fescue showed some yellowing. The bluegrass tall fescue and ryegrass was completely unaffected by the herbicide. Exactly what I expected.
