    Q
Can Bifen IT be used on horse pasture to control fire ants?
How long do u need to wait before u can let the horses back on the pasture. How much should be applied per acre?
    A
The Bifen IT cannot be used on any pasture area or anywhere that animals graze, even after dry. For fire ant control, the best product to use both for pastures and effectiveness would be the Extinguish Fire Ant Bait. This product has no grazing restrictions for animals and will give you far superior contol over the entire colony of fire ants rather than just part of it like the Bifen will do. If you scroll down on the Extinguish Fire Ant Bait page after following the link we provided above, you will see all the instructions you would need for application. You will typically use 1.5-2lbs per acre.

    Q
Extinguish fire ant bait around chickens?
We have free range chickens and are afraid the chickens will eat the bait as it looks like "scratch". Any suggestions and/or safety data on Extinguish and poultry. Have used Extinguish for several years and love the results...but chickens are new to us this year.
    A
You will need to use the Extinguish Bait in only areas that are inaccessible to the chickens. For more information on using Extinguish near chickens we recommend contacting the manufacturer Zoecon at 800-877-6374. The manufacturer may have baiting suggestions for your situation.

    Q
Is Extinguish Fire Ant Bait waterproof? How do weather conditions affect it?
    A
If Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait gets wet, it will have reduced palatability, and therefore reduces results. The product should be applied while ground conditions are dry and where rainfall is not expected for more that six hours. Most foraging ants will pick up the bait within six hours after placement.

    Q
What is best time of year to apply Extinguish Fire Ant Bait in Central Florida (Tampa)?
And how much will I need to treat 2 acres?
    A

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can take 8 to 12 weeks to see results, however, you should only apply this if the soil temperature is about 65 degrees, it is not going to rain within 8 hours, and the fire ants are foraging. If they are not foraging the bait will not work. It is recommended to broadcast the treatment instead of mound treat for best results, and you should apply the product where the ground is in the sun, since this is where fire ants will nest.  You will use 1 - 1.5 lbs. per acre. Do Not Apply in the Late Fall or Winter when Ants are Not Foraging

    Q
I have a fire ant problem on a 40 acre field that is cut for hay. Do you have any product that is safe for this application?
    A
We have a very popular product called Extinguish Fire Ant Bait which is the preferred choice by farmers because it can be used on grazeland.  It is one of the only kinds of fire ant bait that can be used for this purpose.  One 25lb bag can be broadcasted to cover about 17 acres.  Please read the product label also for complete instructions and further information about the product.

    Q
I am looking for a broadcast ant bait for 5 acres with pyriproxyfen as a principle ingredient.
Something like Valent Esteem ant bait.
    A
Depending on the areas you are using the bait you would need either the Extinguish Fire Ant Bait, or the Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. Both products will work on multiple species of ants, not just fire ants. The Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can be applied to all sorts of areas including cropland with no withdrawal period or grazing restrictions. The Extinguish Plus can be used in non-crop areas such as range land, pasture, lawns, landscaped areas, golf courses. You can use this product on pastureland, however you must remove all grazing livestock for at least 48 hours after application. Then they can return to the land after 48 hours. Although it does not have Pyriproxyfen as the IGR in the product, the Methoprene will work just as well and it is the only bait we carry for ants that has an IGR built into it. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Can Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait be used around fruit-bearing trees?
    A

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait should be used outside the drip line of any fruit bearing trees. This is a safe product to use as long as it is used as directed around the fruit. You will still be able to consume fruit as long as the product is outside of the drip zone of your trees.

    Q
Can Extinguish Fire Ant Bait be mixed with sand (or other inert material) in a spreader?
Trying to broadcast only 1.5 pounds per acre is impossible with any spreader I've found. Could I mix this thoroughly with sand (or other inert material) in my spreader to allow more volume of total material to flow through it?
    A

We would recommend that you either mound treat or just sprinkle Extinguish Fire Ant Bait directly out of the container (3.5 Tablespoons per 1,000 sq. ft.) rather than use a spreader.  It is hard to find a spreader with a small enough setting.

    Q
Will Extinguish Fire Ant Bait harm fish?
We have a customer with a pond and some bait got into his pond, could it hurt fish?
    A

According to the manufacturer, Extinguish Fire Ant Bait could, in fact, be harmful to fish and other aquatic life. The product label states that this product should not be applied directly to water, or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. It also states that you want to make sure not to contaminate water when disposing of rinsate or equipment washwaters.

    Q
Does Extinguish Fire Ant Bait tell you what setting to use for your spreader?
    A

Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait should be spread with a hand-held spreader, backpack, motorized equipment or aircraft at the rate of 1.5 lbs. per acre.  Set the spreader at the lowest setting, treating the outer perimeter first, and then apply in a strip pattern within that area.  The product label does not specify spreader settings, but you can refer to our video here on calibrating your spreader.

  • Asked by Greg from Industry, texas
    04/28/2021
    Q
Is Extinguish Fire Ant Bait the best product for fire ants to treat 3.5 acres that can be applied with a spreader?
    A

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait will eradicate fire ants when they are actively foraging looking for food. /This is a slow acting bait to allow time for the bait to be taken back to the colony and shared with the queen. Extinguish Fire Ant Bait also contains an IGR that helps stop the queen from being able to reproduce therefore eliminating the colony.

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can be applied as individual mound treatments or as a broadcast treatment. Mound treatments are applied at 3 - 5 Tbsp. per mound or 1 - 1.5 lbs. per acre.

One 25lb bag is enough to treat 17 acres.

    Q
What is the best temperature (air and soil) to apply Extinguish Fire Ant Bait? How do I determine the soil temperature?
    A

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait advises to apply if the soil temperature is about 65 degrees, it is not going to rain within 8 hours, and the fire ants are foraging. In this case you can use a soil temperature probe to check the soil temperature. You can also visit Green Cast Online to check the soil temperatures in your area.
