Works great
By Thomas on 07/11/2015
I broadcast this at 2 lb/acre over my 4 acres, once or twice a year, and it has eliminated 90-95% of my fire ants, and I had previously had 75-100 mounds on my property. It takes a few weeks to work. After the mounds are dead I level them, which helps me to identify any new mounds. Only a few new mounds pop up throughout the year, and I spot treat them. I live in North Alabama. I rolled the bag tightly and clamped it and it has kept without spoiling for 2-3 years, which is how long the 25 lb bag lasts me.

Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait
By David on 08/16/2017
Bought this to help with ants invading my vegetable garden, particularly the okra. I have raised beds inside of a fenced area. Put the bait on the outside of the fenced area and around the outside of each raised bed. Worked great. Haven't seen ants in days.

Dont know the full effect yet
By Raj on 11/17/2011
Its been two weeks since I applied this to my yard. So far I see some reduction in the fire ant numbers but they are not gone for sure. I plan to do another treatment come spring and hope my summer is ant free! The ants do seem less in number and sluggish right now, but that could be just the winter time making them hide.

So Far, So Good
By Robert on 05/13/2013
Bought this to treat what I thought were Fire Ants but after more research, I determined they were Harvester Red Ants. Either way, they had sent my dog to the vet with some nasty swollen paws, and me home with a nice vet bill. I spot treated individual ant holes as I discovered them over a 1 acre pasture. I sprinkled this stuff around the holes and they went nuts carrying it back to their nest. Within a few day to a week, not a living ant to be found. It's been about a month now and still no sign of ants. I'm very pleased with this product. Follow instructions and hopefully you will as well.

Wonderful
By Janet on 09/05/2015
I love Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. It is worth the money. When I lived on 2.6 acres I spread it two years in a row and didn't have fire ants year 3. Now I live on 40 acres with 10 acres of pasture. Right now I have to top dress the mounds and it works well that way too. I like spreading it better. Just follow the directions.

Kills, but.....
By Nick on 04/24/2016
Our new property in Florida was neglected, except for ants. Tons of species, sizes, mounds and areas covered with the lil bastards. Following directions, waiting for them to forage, dry, cool mornings and sparse spreading didn't solve issue. I needed to repeat several times, week after week, and then still have to treat mounds as they continue to survive. Problem has improved over time, but not a quick fix for sure. Good Luck.

Works well
By Jeff on 04/18/2017
I went ahead and purchased this after reading the reviews and I have to say, better than anything I've ever used. I live in FL, and have ants that will drink your tea in front of you, works great, works fast, and not all that building another ant pile over and over, this stuff does exactly as it says, plus I have small dogs I had to keep getting out of it, animal safe, course I wouldn't let them eat it, mine got into some of it, I'll order again

Great product
By Henry on 04/27/2017
I've been using this product for several years - since Over and Out changed their formula and ruined its effectiveness. It's the best thing that I have found to treat my 2 acre lawn. I spread it thinly in the spring when hills first appear, and then spot treat around any mounds that may pop up later. Now, if I could just afford to treat the roadsides and fields life would be fire ant free!

Extinguish Plus Did Not Work As Well As Extinguish
By William on 09/29/2017
I have used extinguish with good results. The Extinguish Plus does not work as well. It only got rid of 50% of the fire ant colonies. I suspect the insecticide in the plus kills the workers before the bait reaches the queen. I assume she never receives the IGR. It would be better if the plus is dropped and the original Extinguish is brought back in a size suitable for home owners. In addition, I need the product quickly. Otherwise I would have gone to Amazon where the price was lower.

Most effective ant killer
By Lisa on 10/26/2018
We live in the South. We bought a house with an extreme amount of fire ants and I bought this to treat them. The ants immediately started taking this into the mounds and continued until it was gone. I now have inactive mounds. I'm going to treat another area of our land in the spring. I was happy that it was safe to apply near animals.

Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait
By Harvey on 12/31/2014
Product did kill some ants, but after second application, still had some ants. The ants moved to a new location instead of being killed. Would definitely try another product.
Expert response:
We would recommend testing to see if the target ants are actively foraging before you apply the bait. A great test if to use a potato chip to see if fire ants are attracted to it. The best times to bait will be usually in the early morning or late afternoon and when soil temperatures are above 60 degrees F. Also be sure to keep the bait dry; do not apply within 6 hours of a rain event as wet bait will not be attractive. If you have further questions, we are always happy to assist you over the phone as well at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.

Did Not Work - Try Something DIfferent
By David on 03/12/2015
After reading the reviews I was really hoping to take care of my ant problem. I mound treated, which I know it says is not as effective as broadcast, but I expected to kill at least one mound. It's been 9 days since treatment and it did not work. Not even the tiniest ant pile died. They ate the bait like crazy, but all for not. Time to try something else.
Expert response:
Thank you for your comments. When using ant baits, we recommend reapplying the bait as long as the ants are accepting it. Sometimes this will be for a few days, sometimes a few weeks, depending on the size of the population. Be sure you are applying the bait when ants are actively foraging and soil temperatures are above 60 degrees. Also be sure the bait stays dry, since wet bait will be less attractive.
You could also choose to treat individual mounds with an insecticide that is labeled for this use. Talstar P is a popular and economical choice: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/talstar-talstar-one-p-97.html. Per the product label:
"Treat mounds by applying 1 oz Talstar Professional per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12

Works when applied as directed
By Phillip on 06/29/2015
I live in South Texas and have tried many different things to slow down the fire ants in my yard. The fire ants have been extremely bad this year due to all the rain and flooding. I spread this around my yard and did not see a fire ant for about a month. I just seen a mound on the edge of my property(untreated area). I sprinkle some of the granules around that mound and it was gone in less than two days. I have now not seen a mound on my treated property for about 3 months. I may just be lucky but I will continue to use this product until it fails to work at all.
