    How many of Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer do I need to use on a stump?
    The previous answer was totally wrong. It strung together two unrelated parts of the instructions. Instruction for killing plants: takes 1 to 6 weeks for plant to die Instruction for killing stump: Paint once? Do not tell us that the stump will disintegrate in 1 to 6 weeks -- that is wrong. The root system may be poisoned in 1 to 6 weeks, but the stump will not look any different in one month or two months or even three.

    It will take 1-6 weeks to kill the root system. You will still have to do your part by removing the stump. Fertilome Brush and Stump Killer will kill the root system and make the stump stop sprouting but it does not make the stump disappear. The exact wording on the product label is "To kill Stumps and prevent sprouting, apply the undiluted product with a paint brush or backpack sprayer to completely cover the freshly cut surface. Do not reuse paint brush. Wrap in several layers of newspaper and discard in trash."

    How soon after using Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer on a stump can I replant a tree?

    According to the manufacturer if you used Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer as directed on the product label, and you did not get any product on the soil, you can replant right away. Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer does persist in the soil so if you did treat the soil the manufacturer recommends that you wait 6-8 months before you replant anything in the area.

    What can I use to kill Crepe Myrtle shoots after tree removal?
    Had a couple of large crepe myrtles removed. Now I am getting constant shoots coming up from the roots. I apply your post-emergent Atrazine High Yield formula to avoid harming my centipede grass. It will do an initial kill, but then they come right back. Have been doing it for 2 years now. Thought by now the tree would die from lack of light access. Wonder if Triclopyr for woody weeds would work better? Don't want to knock out the centipede though.

    If you have shoots coming out directly from the stump or roots, you can cut the shoot and apply Ferti-lome Brush Killer and Stump Killer directly to the fresh cut,  It’s not labeled to harm your grass but we do not recommend making direct applications. Apply it undiluted to the freshly cut stumps/roots and then use it at either full strength or the highest dilution on any shoots that are coming up around the main stump. This will penetrate further into the root system to kill it out. You may have to cut back new shoots from time to time in the beginning as the Crossbow and Stump Killer products will only kill what has already emerged from the ground, not prevent the new seedlings still below the surface from sprouting up. Over time the stump and root system should die out and eventually break down in the soil.

    How often do we apply Fertilome Brush and Stump killer to remove the stump?

    According to the product label, you should only have to apply the product one time to the stump but it could take 1-6 weeks to see full results. Use Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer full strength when using on stumps.

    According to the Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer product label "To kill Stumps and prevent sprouting, apply the undiluted product with a paint brush or backpack sprayer to completely cover the freshly cut surface."     What can i use to get rid of posion ivy that is pet friendly?

    Any herbicide labeled for poison ivy control will be safe for your pet to be around as long as you follow the product label instructions. One of the many products we carry that would meet your needs would be the Fertilome Brush Killer & Stump Killer. Keep pets out of the area where you to plan to spray while you treat, and until the surfaces sprayed are dry. Once dry you and your pet can resume normal activity in the treated area. Please refer to the Product Label for instructions on how to dilute the product for your needs.

    Will Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer kill other trees in the same area?
    I have 3 elm trees that I have cut down, they have a large root system and I have a large Sycamore and Blue Spruce qin the same area. If I use this product on my elm tree stumps will it kill my Sycamore or Blue Spruce?

    As long as the Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer is only applied to the trees you need to kill, it will not effect surrounding trees.

    What chemical will kill woody vines that are invasive?
    I live in central Illinois and this vine is growing everywhere! It is growing up my trees and house. It has green leaves. I have no idea what this is. It isn't any of the invasive vines I have seen

    I have several old stumps. They vary in size, but all are too short and too wide to cut down further. The directions say to apply to a freshly cut stump. Will this also work on older stumps?

    Will Fertilome Brush Killer kill the roots of my aspen trees or ather plants?
    I'm trying to kill wild roses around my aspen trees.

    The Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer is specifically designed to kill trees and brush so this would not be the product for your needs. You would want to use a broad leaf herbicide like Hi Yield 2, 4-D to control the wild roses without harming the trees. The only way to use the Fertilome without harming the trees is to very carefully directly spot spray the rose bushes or chop into the trunk of the roses and apply/paint it into the main system of the plant.     Brush Killer & Stump Killer. I recently bought this to kill lilacs.
    I have a multi step problem. I have OLD lilacs with tough and horrendous roots. In amongst them is a big yellow jacket nest. This winter (still lots of snow here), I cut down all the lilacs. There are hundreds of tiny stumps now. I want to kill the lilacs and look for entry points for the yellow jackets. I can rake the duff, once the snow melts to see better. From reading the label, it suggests I use it full strength. Can I thin it and spray every couple days, and if so, how many days in-between? I couldn't possibly use a paint brush, there are just too many of them.

    The answer to your question is somewhat complex. First, it is important to know that in order to kill the stump and roots you must apply this to actively growing plants or you must cut the stump again and quickly (within a minute or so after cutting) and spray the freshly cut stump in order for the plant to absorb the herbicide. This is important because if the plant is dormant it will not absorb the herbicide which would be pointless.  A foliar spray to a stump would not deliver desirable results. Also, you most certainly can use a sprayer to apply the Fertilome Brush Killer & Stump Killer. I would recommend using it full strength as anything subpar may not give you desirable results.

    Does Ferti-lome Brush Killer and Stump Killer kill grass?
    Confused. One question was does it kill grass? Answer was NO. Is this so? Yet to destroy the root system so it does not sprout again the roots are under my grass and my Daisy Asters and other shrubs. Will Ferti-lome kill them while it is working on the root system underneath of the Creeping Trump Vine ??

    Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer is designed to target woody brush, shrubs, trees and broadleaf weeds. It is not chemically designed to target or harm grasses. That being said, any heavy amount of any herbicide that is used in a concentrated area will always have the potential for harming non target plants directly within the vicinity of the treatment area depending on how and where it is used. If there is grass under the plant you wish to kill, you can try making small cuts into the plant and applying the product at the highest concentration or undiluted with a paint brush on the freshly cut surface. This will reduce the risk of it getting on any other desireable vegetation nearby.

    What can I use to kill popcorn (Chinese Tallow) trees?

    You can kill and remove small Chinese tallow trees less than 3 feet tall with a shovel and a saw. If you don't want the tree to come back you should apply a stump-killing herbicide such as Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer  to the fresh tree stump. Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer does persist in the soil so if you do treat the soil the manufacturer recommends that you wait 6-8 months before you replant anything in the area.

    I have pine tree stumps approximately 5 inches around and want to kill them so I can replant
    The trees are down and gone and now I need to get the top regrowth to stop so I can replant Daily lilies and flowers this fall if possible.

    Can I use Ferti-Lome Brush Killer to kill a crepe myrtle that has been cut off?
    Purchased a home and had to cut down 2 large crepe myrtles near our septic tank. Stumps were ground, but now I have shoots growing up off of the roots throughout a decent portion of the lawn. I cut them off when I mow, but they continue to grow back after 3 years. I've sprayed them with Trimec so as not to hurt the Centipede lawn, but that doesn't eliminate them. I'm wondering if I need to use Triclopyr and whether that would hurt the Centipede? Or is there another answer to get rid of them?

    Yes, a triclopyr product such as Fertilome Brush Killer would be best for treating fresh cuts. You can brush this product full strength (carefully) onto fresh cuts for best results and to create the least amount of risk to your turfgrass.

    What do you have that will kill a large Poplar stump (about 20" in diameter) and it's roots?
    I cut down a large Poplar tree last fall. It wasn't until this summer that I realized zillions of small poplars would sprout from the roots. This is making a mess of my front yard and I hope you can help me. Thank you.

    If you want to selectively kill something then you would want to drill holes into the stump or use the cut stump method.  This means you cut the stump to expose fresh pulp and immediately treat.  You may want to try a brush and stump killer product like Fertilome Brush and Stump Killer.
