Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 could injure bermudagrasa and cool season turfgrasses since it is only labeled for St. Augustine & Centipede lawns however, we cannot guarantee the full effects it would have on bermuda.
Bermudagrass is difficult to eliminate due to how quickly and how far out the roots spread. The most common method to kill bermudagrass in St. Augustine would be spot treating bermudagrass when actively growing or in transition in/out of dormancy with a non selective such as Roundup QuikPRO. Any bare spots in the lawn can be reseeded after 2 weeks.
Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 is labeled to be used on established Zoysia grass and is used as a pre-emergent. In order to determine is it's the correct one for you than you need to know what weeds you are targeting and when they germinate. Please make sure to read the label before using it.
Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 should be applied in early spring to prevent crabgrass, paspalum, spotted spurge, and sedge; and then again in the fall to avoid winter weeds like evening primrose, rabbit tobacco, henbit, and chickweed. Typically you would want to apply your fall pre-emergent by September 15th.The general rule is to apply your pre-emergent herbicide treatment after the ground has thawed from the winter but before the temperature of your soil reaches 55 degrees, as that is when crabgrass begins to germinate. Other weeds will germinate when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees. You can use a soil thermometer to determine the temperature of your lawn/area. You will want to measure the temperature of the soil a few inches below ground.
You may contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region or search online for best time to apply in (your area). A lot of universities have great articles for this.
Unfortunately we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo and the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 bag. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this here.
Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 is only labeled for burclover.
We recommend using a soil analysis test kit or taking a sample of your soil to your local cooperative extension so your soil can be analyzed to determine what nutrients your soil is lacking. The healthiest, hardiest lawns are fertilized 2-4 times per year, fall, summer, early spring and late spring. Ferti-lome St. Augustine Weed and Feed 15-0-4 could be used if the nutrients it provides are what your lawn needs.
We do have soil test kits here.
