Unfortunately, Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench wouldn't be the best choice because it's not labeled for Aphids and therefore wouldn't help get rid of the aphid sap.
We would recommend something like Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree & Shrub Insect Control Landscape Formula. It is safe to use on Pecan Trees for Aphid control. You would apply 1/2 oz per inch of distance around trunk so what you need to do is measure the distance, in inches, around the trunk at chest height and multiply the total by .5 for the amount of ounces required for the application. For 2 or more trunks (at chest height) take the total of the measured trunks and multiply the total by .375, the total of that is the amount in ounces needed. You can use the total ounces to a gallon of water or if the total inches of 2 or more trunks were more than 50" then you need to use 2 gallons of water. You can use a bucket or watering can and slowly pour the finished solution around the trunk/main stem of the tree as possible for best results. The best time for application is before the problem starts which is preferably in the fall but it can be applied at any time as long as the ground is not waterlogged or frozen. It is only meant to be applied once a year.
Per the label, You will mix 1 oz of Fertilome Tree & Shrub Insect Drench per inch of distance around the tree trunk. Because the product is an insecticide, it likely will not hurt a non flowering tree. We suggest adding lots of water to try to balance the product to water ratio. Please consult the product label for complete application instructions.

For best results, Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench works best as a preventative treatment before insect activity is present by soil drench between early spring through early fall. Systemic insecticides can take weeks to months to translocate throughout the tree from the root zone depending on the size and age of the tree.
We recommend doing a monthly application with a residual insecticide labeled for aphids such as Talstar P as a foliar spray every 30 days. This will treat active insects such as whiteflies, aphids, spider mites, clover mites, mosquitoes, etc
View more information in our Aphids Treatment Guide.
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is not specifically labeled for treatment of fire ants. We recommend that you bait for fire ants using Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait if they are foraging for food or Talstar P for mound drenching the fire ants. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Fire Ants for more information.
Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure whether or not over-application of Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench at that rate would have a negative affect. We suggest that you call Fertilome directly for assistance. You can reach them at 855-270-4776.
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is a highly effective insecticide drench because of how it works within the plants themselves. It moves down through the soil after application, where it is absorbed by the roots of the plant or tree. Once absorbed, it moves up through the tree or shrub providing year-long insect protection. This differs from a foliar application because the residual is far longer.
Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench should only be applied as directed to listed ornamental trees and shrubs only and avoid areas with flowers.
You will mix 1 oz of Fertilome Tree & Shrub Insect Drench per inch of distance around the tree trunk. (Most other systemics will give rates according to diameter at breast height, rather than circumference.)
Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench should be used on trees and shrubs including listed fruit and nut trees. It does not list roses as a tolerable application. We recommend that you apply Bayer Advanced All in One Rose and Flower Care.
Fertilome Tree & Shrub Insect Drench is for use on outdoor trees and shrubs including listed fruit and nut trees: Apple, Loquat, Oriental Pear, Crabapple, Mayhaw Pear, Pecan, and Quince. One soil drench treatment per year during early spring to early fall is recommended for a preventative treatment program before insect damage occurs.
Fertilome Tree & Shrub Insect Drench does take time to absorb depending on the size of the plant or tree. This can range from one week to 3 months for full absorbtion. Soil drench applications should be be done 2-3 months before the expected pest infestation you are targeting.
Please contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application for your specific area.

Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is not labeled to be applied to potted Plumeria plants. We would recommend using Fertilome Triple Action Plus for Spider mites on potted Plumeria plants.
Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to boring beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench such as Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench) have proven ineffective for beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Permethrin SFR. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.
Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is labeled to be used on trees and shrubs, but not rose bushes. We would recommend using Bonide's Rose RX Systemic Drench which protects entire plants, including new growth, against insects and diseases. Per label, mix at 1 - 2 oz per gallon of water.
Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench should only be applied to outdoor trees and shrubs including listed fruit and nut trees: Apple, Loquat, Oriental Pear, Crabapple, Mayhaw Pear, Pecan, Quince. We do carry Bonide Systemic Granules that can be applied to non-edible potted houseplants, roses, and shrubs. Please refer to the product label to see if this will fit your needs.
