  • Asked by Aavo from Sterling, Va
    07/19/2013
    Q
How does the natural insecticide using "pyrethrins" work?
    A
Insecticides using the ingredient Pyrethrin are normally contact kill only products due to the nature of the ingredient derived from the crysanthymum plant. The Harmonix Insecticide has other inert ingredients in it which give it both contact kill and residual properties. Each product containing pyrethrin will vary on how it is produced as to how it works. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
What's the best device for dispensing the Harmonix Insect Spray?
Do I need a hose, does it come with a spray nozzle or applicator?
    A
The Harmonix Insect Spray is a concentrate that you will need to mix with water in a hand pump sprayer, or put in a hose end applicators reservoir. The bottle has 2 lids, one that is over the main portion of the solution, and a second which is over the built in measuring reservoir so you dont have to come into contact with the chemical. There are no attachments that you add on to this bottle. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
How effective is Harmonix Insect Spray on bedbugs?
    A

Harmonix Insect Spray is labeled to be used for bed bugs, and does work well, but when treating a bed bug infestation several products should be used in conjunction with each other to gain full control of the infestation. I recommend looking over one of our Bed Bug Kits as they will give you the best products to eradicate the bed bugs.

    Q
Would you recommend Harmonix for outdoor ant control rather than Eco PCO WPX? Need something that isn't toxic
    A

Harmonix Insect Spray is an insecticide that kills insects including ants on contact with some resdiual effects. When using Eco PCO WP-X or Harmonix, the ants that are not sprayed directly or come in contact with the treated areas will not be effected. • Asked by Pablo from Miami
    06/30/2014
    Q
Can Harmonix Insect Spray be used with fruit bearing trees such as mangoes?
I have fruit bearing mangoes, sugar apples and avocados. Can I use this in my lawn to get rid of fleas and ticks?
    A

Harmonix Insect Spray is labeled for fleas and ticks to be sprayed in the lawn but it is not labeled for edibles. We would recommend that you not spray the trees.

If you are looking for a flea/tick solution, we would recommend using the Outdoor/Indoor Flea Kit. You would mix 0.5 to 1.0 fl. oz. of Onslaught and 1.0 fl. oz. of Martin's IGR (insect growth regulator) with a gallon of water and spray the lawn. If the problem still persists, 14 days later you would spray 0.5 fl. oz. to 1.0 fl. oz. of Onslaught mixed with a gallon of water across the lawn. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

    Q
How well does Harmonix do for ticks outside?
    A
Harmonix Insect Spray is an insecticide that kills insects including ticks on contact with some residual effects.  It can be applied at 7 day intervals for best results.  Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your pets should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on dogs or cats for tick control.

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

    Q
    Does Harmonix stain walls?
    I used 2.6 oz per 1 gallon.
    A

We have not had any reports of staining with Harmonix.  That being said, it is a pyrethrin product and somewhat oily, so there is the possibility that the solution could stain certain surfaces.  The manufacturer always recommends doing a spot test first if you are unsure.  If you have used it and have experienced staining, it would be best to contact Bayer directly for advice on how to remove any stains.  You can reach them by calling 800-331-2867.

Most natural products have a strong smell, for good or for bad. Does this product stink up the house?
    A

Harmonix Insect Spray has a solvent like odor to it per the SDS.  Any lingering odor will disipate once the treated area is dry, but it would not be a strong odor until then.

Can Harmonix Insect Spray be used as an additive say with Suspend Polyzone? What would it do to its residual effects?

Harmonix Insect Spray can be mixed with another insecticide such as Suspend Polyzone.  Harmonix will help to provide a faster knockdown but should not affect the residual of any other products if used as directed on the product label.

  • Asked by Taitai from York, Pa
    04/18/2018
    Q
In what weather conditions can Harmonix be used?
How much to use for carpenter bees on a 3story home? Spring weather has only just started here, but it is still a bit cold. I saw on one warm day the carpenter bees flying around the outside of my home, we have trouble with them everybody year. Is this product best used during certain weather conditions? Also, how much product is needed for a three story home that is all painted wood?
    A

Harmonix Insect Spray can be used at just about any temperature as long as it is above freezing. This is primarily a contact kill insecticide, though, so you want to use it when you see active insects. Most insects will not be active until temperatures are around at least 60 degrees since they need warmer temperatures to survive. Harmonix is a concentrate, and you could use 2.6 oz per gallon of water for exterior treatment, applying at 7-day intervals as needed, per the product label. You should only treat the wood where you see or suspect the insect activity. Depending on the size of the structure, you may use 1-3 gallons of solution per treatment.

We also have our Carpenter Bee Control Kit, which includes a dust, duster, and plugs for the holes. We have more tips in our Carpenter Bee Treatment Guide here.
