Larvae was taken out of a tree that I had cut down this winter, and it was taken to a local environmental research and education center. They felt that it was either a larva of a powder post beetle or of an oak borer. This larva was in a honeysuckle tree. From the looks of it, I have the same infestation in a maple tree and white pine trees in my yard. From what I have read on the internet, it looks like powder post beetles live in live wood. As far as oak borers go, these trees are other than oaks. Would you have one product that could treat both of these pests? I live in NY state, and I see many products are restricted here.
It is very important to have the pest identified before treatment can begin. Each pest has a very different treatment. Please contact your local cooperative extension office for insect identification and treatment options in NY.
