I have borers living under the bark and killing my 20 year old white pine trees.

the bores live just under the bark

Answer:

Most boring beetle infested white pine trees have been infested for quite some time before the damage is visible and unfortunately cannot be saved. Please contact your local cooperative extension office to seek advice on the types of beetles in your region and the treatment if any that they require.
