The bunk beds are used for young children who my still have "accidents" during the night. 1) Does the protect-a-bed allerzip "TERRY" absorb urine? 2) How should the "Terry" be spot cleaned while remaining on the mattress? 3) Would the protect-a-bed allerzip "Smooth" be a better choice? 4) The bunk beds have a 1.75" platform (cloth over a wood frame). Does anyone make a "box" cover for a thin (1.75 inch) platform? 5) If I replace the 1.75" platform with a "Bunkie board" consisting of multiple wooden slats held together with a nylon strip, would this open support need any protection from bedbugs? 6) Would the wooden slat "Bunkie board" create any wear or stress point to the underside of a protect-a-bed allerzip mattress containment system?
It is possible that the terry cloth top could absorb urine. We recommend that after you put the encasement on your child's bed that you then put a protective waterproof pad over it just like you would put on the mattress if the encasement were not there. These pads can easily be removed and washed if they are soiled without having to worry about removing or cleaning the encasement. The Protecta Bed company does not make any sort of encasement for the platform or for bunkie boards. We have spoken to the manufacturer and they recommend using a 6" mattress encasement on the bunkie board if an encasement is needed. You will need to protect the mattress encasements on the mattress from rough or sharp edges on the bunkie board or platform to avoid rips and tears.
