Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules contain bifenthrin, which is an insecticide that starts killing insects on contact and then has a residual for several weeks after the application has dried. Depending on the size and health of the individual ants, they can start dying within minutes. Keep in mind that this insecticide is not a transfer product, so if you are treating ant mounds, then you need to follow the label directions for direct mound drenching.
The Hi Yield Ant Killer Granules are not labeled for use in grazing areas or where animals such as chickens would peck the ground and risk ingesting the chemical. You may want to consider a spray option instead so there are no loose granules on the surface for them to pick up, or use outdoor ant baiting in stations in the area to allow the ants only to have access to the chemical.
Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules is labeled to kill fire ants. Per the label: For Fire Ant Mounds: Uniformly apply 1 tablespoon or 3 teaspoons of granules to the surface of each mound. For best results apply in cool weather, 65 to 80 F, in early morning or late evening hours. Avoid disturbing ants. Treat new mounds as they appear. Thoroughly water the treated area after application
As long as Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules has been applied as directed on the label, pets can return to the area about an hour after treatment.
Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules will be effective, however we also carry Dominion 2L which can be used as well to kill carpenter ants that have invaded a tree.
Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules is labeled for ant control, and should be effective on thatch ants, providing they are foraging and actually take the bait back in order to eliminate the colony.
Hi-Yield Ant Killer Granules will only kill ants that contact a treated area, it does not get carried back/transfered to others. Maxforce Complete Granular Bait would be a better option for baiting to kill the colony. Just do not apply the 2 in the same areas as the HiYield can contaminate the bait.
