    Q
Will Hi-Yield Root Killer kill bamboo roots? Our bamboo is spreading out of control.
Our bamboo is coming up all over our yard. Is it safe to put the root killer on the grass? Or only on the garden area around the bamboo? Will it kill existing bamboo roots or only new ones?
    A

Hi-Yield Root Killer is labeled for use in sewer pipes and septic tank drain fields to kill roots that are intruding in those areas.  It is not for lawn use.

It can be very difficult to control bamboo that is not being contained from another area where it has been planted. To kill existing bamboo, you can cut the target plants down and spray directly with a high concentration dilution of RoundUp QuickPro
You may consider putting in a physical barrier to prevent further spreading. This needs to be pretty solid and deep enough to prevent the underground roots from spreading.

    Q
Can Hi-Yield Root Killer be used to kill roots in a sumppump well?
My neighbor's tree is sending roots into my sump pump well. She will not cut down the tree. I've had to replace my sump pump from the roots getting tangled in the blades. I need a product to spray/pour in my sump pump well the keep out the roots.
    A

Hi-Yield Root Killer  should only be applied in toilets or through a distribution box direct to septic tank drainfield ( NOT sink drains, tub or sump pumps. We recommend consulting with your local cooperative extension office for other alternatives.

    Q
How using Hi-Yield Root Killer, how long after you flush should you be able to tell your drain is working again?
    A

The time frame after using Hi-Yield Root Killer will vary depending on the severity of the blockage, how thick the roots are and how thorough the crystals are able to get to the blockage. If you have a complete stoppage, we would recommend waiting 3 days to flush to evaluate the water flow. If the line is still backed up, then do a 2nd application 7-10 days from the 1st application. You want to use 4 to 6 lbs and then repeat every 7 to 10 days until the blockage is gone.

Some cases may require rodding BEFORE treating with Hi Yield Root Killer to assure some movement in line. This product may also be used through a distribution box direct to septic tank drainfield. If you have a distribution box, you would add the 4-6lbs with sufficient water by hose or bucket to carry the crystals to the point of roots penetration or blockage.

If you have further issues or questions, you are also welcome to contact the manufacturer VPG directly at 1-855-270-4776.
