The north side of the house has many white cotton like cocoons. What are they, and what should I do to get rid of them? I have vertical cedar siding, and they have built their cocoons in the corners of the siding and corners under the overhang.
Many insects form cocoons or white cottony egg sacs. It could be caterpillars preparing to turn into late season butterflies or moths or it could be small spiders forming egg sacs or a variety of other insects. we recommend you call your local cooperative extension office and explain the problem to them. They are very familiar with the insects in your region and they may be able to tell you exactly what you are dealing with. After you have an identification we would be happy to recommend a product for your needs.
