How do I prevent large underground cockroaches and waterbugs from entering my basement?

I live in an area where there are large underground cockroaches and water bugs living underground, is there anyway to keep them from entering my basement or are they entering from underground

Answer:

The best way to keep insects like roaches from entering your basement or other areas of your home is to exclude them physically by checking for any gaps around doors, windows, pipes, and other utilities where they may be getting in. This may also include checking around a crawl space. You also want to be sure that you are keeping vegetation near the house trimmed and groundcover pulled back from the foundation so that the ground next to the house can stay dry and less favorable for these insects. A great product to use around the house and in a crawl space for roaches is Niban Granular Bait. This is a dry bait granule which can last through about 4 inches of rainfall. It also kills ants, crickets, silverfish, earwigs, snails and slugs. See more tips in our Roach Prevention Guide.
