To set the Tomahawk Deluxe Live Trap Skunks/Opossums Easy Release Door - Model 605, first you must lift and hold the trap door open. Then you must pull the trigger forward and lower the door slightly so that it rests on the trigger. The door will remain open when it is resting properly on the trigger. At this point the trap is now set. For detailed instructions about how to set your trap, refer to the following paragraphs in the Setting Guide HERE.
A few things you can do to help capture shy animals include:
*Pre-baiting a trap - put a trail of food leading to the trap and inside the trap for a few days without actually setting the trap to encourage the animal to trust the trap.
*Disguising a trap by using natural materials in the environment like dirt, branches, leaves, etc. to mimic the smell and appearance of the surrounding area (shiny traps usually do not attract animals)
*Covering a trap or placing it inside another possible shelter
*Using a dual-door trap so that the animal appears to have another way out
