Floyd from Powder Springs, Ga writes

How do I treat black smutt fungus on my carissa holly plants?

It was also on my azaleas before the leaves fell and it still appears to be on the trunks.

Answer:

We would recommend that you get a proper identification from your local cooperative extension to be sure it is not insect damage versus a fungus or plant disease. You can reach them by clicking on the link below and selecting your state and county. Once you are certain what you are treating for, we will be able to offer you the products needed for treatment.   http://www.csrees.usda.gov/Extension/
