How does a fall application of Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) help control crabgrass the following spring? Fall applications prevents winter weeds from germinating and a spring application is what will prevent crabgrass and other summer weeds from germinating, correct? I also want to clarify that Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is only a pre emergent and does not have any post emergent qualities to it.

These questions are based off what I was told that your company advised someone so want to confirm.

Answer:

Prodiamine 65 WDG is only a pre-emergent product and will only stop seeds from germinating, it does not have any post emergent abilities to kill actively growing weeds.  When Prodiamine 65WDG is applied as split application, it provides pre emergent control against listed weed for a longer period of time control as opposed to a single application. Fall pre emergent applications should be applied when soil temperatures get to 70 degrees and continue to drop. Spring pre emergent applications and especially for crabgrass control should be made when soil temps reach right around 50-55 degrees.
