Robert from Baton Rouge, Louisiana writes

How long does the active ingredient in Talstar P (bifenthrin) remain in fruit trees that were exposed when treating for fire ants?

Ground under satsuma tree had Talstar applied to get rid of fire ants. Obviously current crop is not suited for consumption. Will next year's crop be safe for consumption ?

Answer:

Depending on the soil type, the active ingredient in Talstar P (bifenthrin) can have a residual of 7 days to 8 months. Most of the time, bifenthrin has a low mobility in most soil types, therefore we would recommend contacting the manufacturer FMC for more information on how long to wait before harvesting fruit off the tree. You can reach FMC at 800-321-1362.
