Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer is a pre emergent that is safe on most all lawn types including St Augustine grass, and only excludes use on dichondra and bentgrass lawns.  It does not mention carpetgrass so we would recommend contacting Scotts directly to confirm.  They can be reached at 888-270-3714
