John from Parrish, Fl writes

Is Southern Ag Atrazine safe to use around palms?

I have areca palms, queen, sylvester palms in my yard and would like to know if I can apply atrazine around them this spring as a preemmergent.

Answer:

No, Southern Ag Atrazine Weed Killer should only be used on established St. Augustine or Centipedegrass turf. It could possibly damage any other desirable plants, according to the product label. We have many other pre-emergent herbicides that are safe to use around established ornamentals such as palms. Surflan Pro is a popular choice for both warm season turf and ornamental areas, depending on what weeds you are targeting. You can browse all our pre-emergent herbicides here.
