For Mole Crickets, Talstar P Professional Insecticide is applied at 1fl oz per gallon of water. Using 2 gallons of mixed solution per 1000 sq ft, immediately irrigat the treated area with an additonal 0.25 inches of water following the application. Thi swill ensure efficacy of sub surface pests such as moles crickets.
For Adult Mole Crickets, early spring is the active stage and when turfgrass is susceptible to continuous invasion. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized. Grass areas that receive pressure from adult mole crickets should be treated at peak egg hatch to ensure optimum control of subsequent nymph populations (see below).
For Mole Cricket Nymphs, treat areas where there was a high presence of adult Mole Crickets in the spring immediately prior to peak egg hatch. This is when the young nymphs are most susceptible to insecticide applications and they are closer to the soil surface. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible. Control of larger, more damaging, nymphs later in the year may require both higher application rates and more frequent applications to maintain acceptable control.. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized.
