Linda from Coconut Creek, Florida writes

Italian cypress canker

The symptoms my italian cypress is exhibiting lead me to believe it has canker. Some studies I have researched have shown benomyl to be effective. Since benomyl is not being sold anymore, can you recommend a substitute?

Answer:

We would really want to be sure exactly what the cause is. You can contact your Local Cooperative Extension Office for an identification. If it is canker, you need to remove any damaged areas. Clearys 3336F Fungicide could work, but it all depends on application timing and the region you are located in. The expert you speak with at your extension office wil be able to assist you with the best application time.
