    Q
timing of application for merit in dupage co.il?
I have a 57x53 ft. back yard ,front is about the same and have a terrible problem with grubs. I have used the bayer 24 hour kill in may and imacloprid in fall and still have a problem .I need to kill the ones that are hibernating from last fall and then the ones after egglay in august. I will be buying a bag of Merit but how long is the shelf life. and can I store it in the garage,I know to keep it clean and dry but will the cold affect it?
    A
Normally grubs are most active between may and june and this is the most common time that products like the Merit are applied. You want to store it in a cool dry, temperature stable place and will normally keep for at least 3 years.

    Q
Why don't you have the Merit in a smaller size like 5000 sq ft. coverage, that would last me 2 yr
    It is a wonderful product!
    A
We apologize but the manufacturer of Merit Granules - 30 lb. bag just does not have it in a smaller bag.  We do however have the Hi-Yield Grub Free Zone III which comes in a smaller bag but has the same active ingredient.

    Q
KILLING JAPENESE BEETLE EGGS AFTER LAY
I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL HUNDRED JAPENESE BEETLES FLYING AROUND MY YARD WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO KILL THE EGGS THEY HAVE LAID IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
    A

For early grub control, you would apply Merit Granules 2 times a year, Spring (April-June) and Fall (Sept- Oct). Merit Granular is the longest lasting broad-spectrum grub control product on the market. You want to apply the product before egg hatch, followed by suffient rainfall or irrigation to move the active ingredient through the thatch. You will need 60lb-80lb per acre or 1.4lb - 1.8lb per 1,000sq feet.

To treat the Japanese Beetles, we recommend using Bifen IT at 1oz per 1 gallon of water. Bifen IT will give you a 30 day residual outside the home for over 75 different types of insects including Japanese Beetles as well as fleas, ticks, mosquitos, etc.

  • Asked by Lysander from Fontana California
    07/29/2014
    Q
How often can you apply this product
I have a really bad infestation and might need extensive treatment. I want to order this product before labor day. How often can I apply Merit Granules so the next time I resod my lawn I will not have this problem. Also should I combine it with another product.
    A
Applying Merit Granules before egg hatch is key. For most white grubs this means applying pesticides while newly hatched grubs are feeding – in mid- to late summer and early fall. The label only states applications cannot exceed a total of 80 lb (0.4 lb of active ingredient) per acre per year. Waiting 3 months between applications is standard. Please follow the labels instructions for watering the Merit Granules in and dethatching the lawn if necessary as this will improve your resulths greatly. We also recommend contacting your local extension office for advise on treatment intervals in your specific area.

  • Asked by Gerald from Medford, Oregon

    Q
I have a verified chinch bug problem in my front lawn. I live in southern Oregon.
What should I use to control Chinch Bugs?
    A
Merit Granular is the longest lasting broad-spectrum insecticide that works as both curative and preventative. Merit Granules holds a ten-year record of 90% effectiveness on virtually every species of turf and ornamental pests, including chinch bugs. Merit also improves the quality of your turf. Merit 0.5 G is for broadcast application on and around turfgrass and should be applied uniformly over the area being treated with either a drop-type or rotary-type spreader. Avoid using a spreader which would apply the product in narrow bands. For optimum control, product application should be followed by mechanical incorporation, irrigation, or rainfall, to help move the active ingredient into the soil.
