  • Asked by Robert from South Carolina

    Q
Can I use MSM in Jan, Feb mixed with Prodiomine without a surfactant?
Prodiomine does not need a surfactant. should it be used separately and if so, how many days afterwards can MSM be used? Should MSM be used afterwards when the weeds are present with a surfactant?
    A
MSM Turf Herbicide is a post emergent that requires the use of a surfactant while Prodiamine is a pre-emergent and does not require one.  There is no time restriction between using the 2 type of products, MSM should only be applied to actively growing weeds and Prodiamine is applied before weeds germinate so usually at different times.

    Q
Will MSM Turf Herbicide harm Pachysandra?
I have Oxalis Dillenii taking over an area where I just planted Pachysandra last spring. Been pulling a pulling the plant out. Only seems to get worse.
    A

MSM Turf Herbicide is only safe to apply on turfgrass it would not be used on ornamentals or groundcovers.  For broadleaf weeds around ornamentals your best bet is to hand pull or very carefully spot treat with a non selective herbicide avoiding any contact with desirables.

  • Asked by Jerald from Booneville Arkansas
    12/14/2022
    Q
Is MSM Turf Herbicide safe to use on dormant Bermuda?
Is there an optimal outside temperature that this product should be applied to dormant burmuda?
    A

Yes, you can apply MSM during dormancy. You don't want to apply any weed controls to the lawn during spring green-up since this is when the grass is in its most fragile state.

MSM Turf Herbicide is best applied when target weeds are actively growing and healthy, usually best between temperatures above 55 and below 85. Per the product label: Do not apply MSM Turf Herbicide to turf under stress from drought, insects, disease, cold temperatures, high temperatures of above 85°F on cool season grasses, or poor fertility as injury may result.

    Q
When is best time of year to spray lawn
    A

MSM Turf Herbicide is a post emergent that should be applied once soil temperatures reach above 55 degrees in the Spring/Summer but before dropping below 70 degrees again in the Fall & before the first frost of the season. Here is our lawn schedule to assist you in application timing or you may also consult your local extension office for further assistance with timing.

  • Asked by Robert from Columbia, Sc
    02/17/2023
    Q
What is the mix rate for mixing MSM Turf and Sulfentrazone together?
I currently have both MSM Turf and Sulfentrazone to apply to my Zenith Zoysia lawn. I believe I can mix both together in a 1-4 gallon mix tank but was wondering what would the mix rates be for both if I wanted to mix them together in a single mix tank.
    A

Since MSM Turf Herbicide requires the use of a non ionic surfactant and Sulfentrazone products do not as they already contain one it would be best to apply in separate applications following the rates for each product.

    Q
Can Tenacity and MSM be mixed
I have an established centipede lawn and live in North Carolina. I would like to kill my lespedeza and crabgrass weeds. Can I mix MSM and Tenacity and spray apply at the same time?
    A
No, Tenacity is not labeled to be broadcast when using as a post emergent.  You should only be spot treating your crabgrass with Tenacity.  Unfortunately, there is no easy way to measure 0.01 oz of Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide to make a 1 gallon solution. Per the manufacturer, their recommended rate to use for spot applications is of 0.1 oz per 4 gallons of water, which can be easily measured with their measuring device provided.

    Q
Can i mix non-ionic surfactant and Trimec with MSM Turf Herbicide?
    A

It would not be recommended to tank mix MSM Turf Herbicide with a Trimec herbicide, as the labels advise that surfactants when combined with them can damage the leaf tissue of turfgrass.  It would be best to apply in seperate applications 24 hours apart.

  • Asked by Blaise from Johnstown Pa

    Q
I'm puzzled, in the question and answer forum I saw that msm should not be used on edible vegetation and then
a question of how long after use on a hayfield. Hay is edible vegetation. Can or can't msm be used on hay ?
    A

There is a Q&A on the MSM Turf Herbicide page that I have copied for you below with the answer we provided to other customers regarding applications to hay. Edible crops such as vegetables and fruit trees are not the same as or in the same category on labels as hay or grazing would be, and each would have their own specific use instructions on the label regarding restrictions of use.

    Q

How soon can hay be cut after applying MSM Turf Herbicide?

    A

According to the product label of Quali-Pro MSM Turf Herbicide, there are NO restrictions regarding cutting hay after the applicaiton. The product label states: "GRAZING AND HAYING RESTRICTIONS: NONE. However, coveralls and shoes plus socks must be worn if cutting within 4 hours of treatment." Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.

    Q
Can/Should I use Fahrenheit along with MSM?
My lawn is pretty infected with dollar weed. My first application of MSM is looking great, yellowing out all the weeds. Would it be advisable to alternate every 4 weeks between MSM and Fahrenheit? Or some different application ratio between the two?
    A

Fahrenheit and MSM both contain metsulfuron-methyl and doing too much can damage the good grass. You should do those separately to not stress or damage the lawn. Probably give a week between treatments even if you would like to use both.
