Through treatment by traditional sodium borate formulations I've managed to drive the carpenter ants from my house. After some searching I've found their nest outside. I setup several small containers of the sugar formulations and spread Advanced 375 over the area. It looks like it worked to some extent but the ants are still there though in diminished numbers. They are no longer taking the sodium borate sugar solutions and they are no longer taking the Advance 375. What else do you recommend for direct application to the ground above and underground nest? The size of the area is 3 feet by 4 feet roughly ovular and when they were feeding they were consuming 1-2 fl oz of Terro a day.
If you know where a nest is, then direct treatment with an insecticide that will kill quickly is always the best solution. The best method is to use a liquid insecticide or a dust directly on the nest. For liquid you should use Cyper WP which is a powder you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer. It will kill the ants quickly once you drench them. You can also treat the nest with a dust which spreads through the nest quickly. We would recommend Delta Dust for this application. One benefit of using Cyper WP is that it is labeled for all other insects as well and can be used inside and outside the home around the perimeter as a general use pest control treatment.
