Pastora Herbicide is registered to use on hay meadows and bermudagrass pastures, and in non-crop areas. Check with your state extension or Department of Agriculture before use, to be certain Pastora is registered in your state. Pastora Herbicide is a granule that is dry-flowable that suppresses or controls grass and broad-leaf weeds. Pastora is mixed in water and applied as a uniform broadcast spray. A spray adjuvant must be used in the spray mix unless otherwise specified on the label. Pastora is noncorrosive, nonflammable, nonvolatile, and no freezing restrictions.
Pastora controls broad-leaf weeds by pre-emergence and post-emergence activity and grass weeds by post-emergence activity. To get the best results from Pastora, apply it to young, active growing weeds. Weeds that are hardened off by the cold weather or by drought stress may be difficult to control. The use rate depends upon the weed spectrum and size of weeds at application.
Do not use on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts, golf courses, athletic fields, or other high-maintenance, fine turfgrass areas, or similar areas.

General Information
Pastora Herbicide controls broadleaf weeds by pre-emergence and post-emergence activity and grass weeds by post-emergence activity. For best results, apply Pastora to young, actively growing weeds. Weeds hardened off by cold weather or drought stress may not be controlled. The use rate depends upon the weed spectrum and size of weeds at application. The degree and duration of control may depend on the following factors:
BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Pastora Herbicide is absorbed through the foliage and roots of weeds, rapidly inhibiting their growth. Leaves of susceptible plants appear chlorotic from 1 to 3 weeks after application and the growing point subsequently dies. The final effects on annual weeds are evident about 4 to 6 weeks after application. The ultimate effects on perennial weeds occur in the growing season following application.
One to two inches of rainfall or sprinkler irrigation (enough to wet the top 2-3 inches of soil profile) may be needed to move Pastora into the weed root zone before the next flush of broadleaf weeds emerge. The amount of moisture required for sufficient activation increases with crop or weed residue and for finer textured soils. Without sufficient rainfall or sprinkler irrigation to move Pastora into the weed root zone, weeds that germinate after treatment will not be controlled.
Application of Pastora provides the best control in vigorously growing pastures that shade competitive weeds. Weed control in areas of thin grass may not be as satisfactory. However, a bermudagrass canopy that is too dense at application can intercept spray and reduce weed control.
In warm, moist conditions, the expression of herbicide symptoms is accelerated in weeds; in cold, dry conditions, expression of herbicide symptoms is delayed. In addition, weeds hardened-off by drought stress are less susceptible to Pastora.
Weed control or suppression may be reduced if rainfall, or sprinkler irrigation occurs within 4 hours after application.
Weed control should be part of an overall pasture management plan which includes good fertility, adequate moisture (rainfall, irrigation), insect and rodent control, and other agronomic practices which maximize bermudagrass growth. Consult your state cooperative extension service, local agricultural dealer, professional consultant or other qualified authority for specific instructions regarding proper management of bermudagrass pastures.
get the mix right

It will take some math to figure out this mix if you're not spraying this out of an airplane,... but when you get it right you'll find that this stuff will last you over 6 years on a small lawn, and control weeds better than MSMA used to!!! I love this stuff! It's like a slow acting MSMA, and when mixed with 2,4-d theres literally not a weed it won't kill post or pre emergent! Careful around trees and shrubs as this stuff is lethal to them.

Does the job

I live in an area plagued by bluestem. In unimproved pastures the grass is ok though some cattleman say that doesn't have a lot of nutrition. In other areas it is a complete pest. I have now sprayed Pastora twice following label directions for bluestem. The bluestem is dying and both Bermuda and buffalo grass are doing fine.

Pastora Herbicide is not labeled for use in buffalo grass pasture and could injure it. It is only labeled for Established Bermudagrass Pastures and Hay Meadows Bermudagrass Turf.

What common lawn grasses can tolerate Pastora herbicide? I am considering using it for sandbur control.
Pastora Herbicide is safe on Bermudagrass, bluegrass, ryegrass, & tall fescue pastures and hay meadows, it is not for use on home lawns.

Once sprayed with Pastora Herbicide, there are no instructions or restrictions on the product label as to why you couldn't overseed with your ryegrass in the fall.
Would like to use this for Johnson grass control right away. He's in a city.
Pastora is labeled for application on established bermudagrass pastures, hay meadows, and bermudagrass turf only. Pastora Herbicide label states: Do not use on lawns, driveways, walks, tennis courts, golf courses, athletic fields, or other high-maintenance, fine turfgrass or other areas.
I want to keep perennial Bermuda and kill Kleingrass/weeds in a horse pasture. Has anyone tried Pastora (or another chemical) successfully for this?
Since Pastora does not list Kleingrass on the label, we cannot say if it will work. We suggest contacting your county extension office for advice on what will work.
Will pastora work in a 5-acre field with wild Bermuda and just common weeds? I have sandbur plants starting to grow since it's early spring, and want to know if this product will help control them as a post-emergent?
Pastora Herbicide is labeled for sandbur in bermudagrass pastures. Per the product label, apply at 1 ounce per acre and make applications when sandbur is newly germinated to 1.5" tall. Make applications when bermudagrass is less than 4" tall, following green-up in the spring or after cutting for hay.

If pastora won't work, can you recommend something else? In coastal NC and is in several of horse pastures. Having trouble getting g rid of. Some of the pastures are. Coastal Bermuda and a couple newer ones are Tif Quick Bahia. Thank you.
Pastora Herbicide is not specifically labeled for Sida Rhombifolia plants/weeds. Instead, GrazonNext HL Herbicide is labeled to target prickly sida and may be safely applied to pastures as long as you are following the instructions on the product label. This product is not specifically labeled for the arrowleaf sida, so if the product happens not to work for the arrowleaf sida as well, we would suggest spot treating the areas with a non-selective herbicide such as RoundUp, and then reseed the areas to fill in any bare spots.
Pastora Herbicide is Not for Use on Lawns.
I have a field with sand spurs. I need them gone. I'm fixing to start a Christmas tree farm.

Pastora Herbicide is only available as a dry-flowable granule.

I have a bumper crop of grassburrs.
The amount of the Pastora Herbicide product you will use will depend on how much area you will be treating. The product label states that 1 oz per acre should be used for field sandbur. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions. Page 13 offers specific information about treating sandbur and how to achieve the best results.

Pastora Herbicide is primarily labeled for post emergent control of sandbur and best applied when the sandbur is newly germinated to 1.5” tall per the product label. For overwintering sandbur or newly germinated sandbur that is greater than 1.5” tall, applications of PASTORA® HERBICIDE may only suppress growth resulting in a reduction in sandbur seedheads.
Per page 13 of the Product Label for Sandbur: Make applications when bermudagrass is less than 4” tall following green-up in the spring or after cutting for hay. Tall, dense stands of bermudagrass can intercept spray and reduce sandbur control. In some areas, sandbur may overwinter and start the new season with an established root system.
For overwintering Sandbur that is greater than 1.5”, it is best to tank mix Pastora Herbicide with a glyphosate non selective at the rate of 0.156 to 0.257 pounds glyphosate per acre. A follow-up application of PASTORA® HERBICIDE may be necessary to control subsequent germination (flushes) of sandbur following the first application or when the first application was made to larger sandbur or under unfavorable environmental conditions.
Sandbur Management must be part of an overall pasture management plan which includes good fertility, adequate moisture (rainfall, irrigation), insect and rodent control, and other agronomic practices which maximize bermudagrass growth. In contrast, sandbur control in areas with thin stands of bermudagrass may not be satisfactory.

3 1/2 acre pasture/yard that are already making heads
If mowing prior to applying Pastora Herbicide, it would be recommended to wait 10 to 14 days after mowing to do the application.
For sandbur control, the product label states to apply when sandbur is newly germinated to and less than 1.5 inches tall. In spring, make applications when bermudagrass is less than 4” tall following green-up in the spring or after cutting for hay.
For overwintering sandbur or newly germinated sandbur that is greater than 1.5 inches tall, applications of Pastora Herbicide may only suppress growth resulting in a reduction in sandbur seedheads. In this type of application, it would be recommended to use Pastora in a tank mix with a non selective glyphosate herbicide at the rate of 2.5 to 4.1 ounces per acre as in some areas, sandbur may overwinter and start the new season with an established root system
