Product Overview

Adonis 75 WSP contains Imidacloprid, the same active ingredient used in premise and merit.

Adonis 75 WSP termiticide/insecticide products provide professional-grade, long-lasting and effective termite control. Adonis 75 can be used to do an in-ground perimeter treatment around a home's foundation to prevent termite infestation or for treating localized areas of known subterranean termite activity. It is also excellent for controlling drywood and dampwood termites, borers and other wood-infesting insects in and around basements, attics, crawl spaces, voids, and damaged wood piles. Adonis 75 works differently from other termiticide products that are designed to simply repel or keep termites away from the treated soil area without killing them. Adonis is a non-repellent termiticide, meaning that termites do not detect that Adonis is present. Unsuspecting termites contact Adonis 75 termiticide and then transfer it to other termites, eventually killing the entire colony.

NEW:  Adonis 75 WSP now has a powerful turf and ornamental label.  The same active ingredient in Merit, Adonis 75 WSP can be used as a very effective systemic as well as direct turf and ornamental applications for a variety of pests.

This product used to be sold and marketed under the Envincio brand name

NOTE: This product is not approved for use in the state of Louisana for Post-Construction Treatments.

How Adonis 75 WSP Works

Imidacloprid, the active ingredient in Adonis 75 WSP (Water Soluble Packets), is the most widely used insecticide in the world with a proven track record of success – less than one percent retreat rate. The active ingredient in Adonis is commonly used in consumer products for both people and pets. Imidacloprid is in the class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, neuro-active insecticides that are modeled after nicotine. Imidacloprid works by disrupting inhibiting stimuli transmission within an insect’s nervous system. More specifically, imidacloprid blocks a certain type of neuronal pathways which are much more prevalent in insects than mammals.

The delayed action of Imidacloprid allows ants and termites to pass the active ingredient throughout colonies via their regular activities before knowing the colony is in danger. For ornamental pests, Adonis 75 is absorbed by plants’ root structure and translocated throughout the plant to kill pests like whiteflies and adelgids.

Adonis has no odor, and remains in the soil for 5 years after initial application. Each bag contains 4 x 2.25 oz water soluble packets.

Target Pests

Subterranean termites, drywood termites, carpenter ants, and other wood-destroying pests; turfgrass pests such as weevils, Japanese beetles, and chafers; ornamental pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and whiteflies

PESTS CONTROLLED: Subterranean termites, Drywood termites, Dampwood termites, Carpenter Ants, Wood-infesting beetles or borers, Powder post beetles, Anobiid or deathwatch beetles, False powder post beetles, Old house borers, Wharf borers, Ambrosia or bark beetles, Carpenter bees, Ants, European Crane Fly, Annual bluegrass weevil, Green June beetle, Asiatic garden beetle, Japanese beetle, Billbug, Northern masked chafer, Southern masked chafer, Black turfgrass ataenius, Oriental beetle, Cutworms (suppression), European chafer, Chinchbug (suppression), Mole crickets (suppression), Adelgids, Aphids, Japanese beetles, Lace bugs, Leaf beetles (including elm and viburnum leaf beetles), Leafhoppers (including glassywinged sharpshooter), Mealybugs, Psyllids, Sawfly larvae, Thrips (suppression), Whiteflies, White grub larvae (such as Japanese beetle, Chafers, Asiatic garden beetle, Oriental beetle larvae), Armored scales (suppression), Black vine weevil larvae, Eucalyptus longhorned borer, Flatheaded borers (including bronze birch borer and alder borer), Leafminers, Pine tip moth larvae, Royal Palm bugs, Soft scales, San Jose scale, Yellow pecan aphid, Black margined aphid, Pecan leaf phylloxera, Pecan spittlebug, Pecan stem phylloxera

Target Uses

Adonis 75 WSP has the same active ingredient as Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide but in a dry, water-soluble packet formulation. Adonis 75 WSP is an excellent termiticide, systemic insecticide, and turfgrass treatment, formulated conveniently for high volume applications. Water-soluble packets are a convenient formulation for pest management professionals on the go, and Adonis 75 is an economical alternative to the popular brands Premise (for termite treatments) or Merit (for ornamental and turfgrass pests).

Use Adonis 75 for pre- or post-construction subterranean termite treatments, for ornamental pests, for a variety of turfgrass pests, and even for some residential fruit and nut trees.

Because each water-soluble packet makes 25 gallons of finished solution, high volume application equipment is required for use. For smaller jobs or low volume applications, use the liquid formulation, Adonis 2F.

Application Instructions

Mixing: Within each foil envelope are clear inner packets containing this product. The clear inner packet is water-soluble, Do not allow packets to become wet prior to adding to the spray tank. Do not handle the clear inner packets with wet hands or wet gloves. Rough handling may cause breakage. Reseal foil envelope to protect remaining packets.

To prepare the spray mixture, open the foil envelope and drop the required number of unopened clear water-soluble packets into the spray tank while ?lling with water to the desired level. Operate the agitator while mixing. Depending on the water temperature and the degree of agitation, the packets should be completely dissolved within a few minutes from the time they are added to the water. Cooler water temperatures increase the time needed for the inner packet to dissolve completely.

Termite applications: The purpose of chemical soil treatment for termite control is to establish a continuous chemical treated zone (horizontal and/or vertical as needed) between the wood and other cellulose material in the structure and the termite colonies in the soil. In some instances where an aerial or above ground colony is established, supplemental treatments to control the termites, landscape modi?cations, and/or structural repairs may be needed to deprive termites of a moisture source. Use a 0.05% to 0.1°/a dilution based on local recommendations. Generally a 0.05% dilution is used for typical control situations. Where severe or persistent infestations occur, use a 0.1% dilution.

For most post-construction termite treatments, use 4 gallons of 0.10% finished solution per 10 lineal feet in a trench 6 inches wide by 6 inches deep to create a continuous barrier around the perimeter of the treated structure. In areas of concrete slab, the same volume should be applied by drilling holes 10” – 12” apart with a hammer drill and ½” x 18” drill bit. See our article How to Do a Termite Treatment for further details of trenching treatment. For soil treatments to be covered by concrete slab such as under carports, porches, or basement floors, apply at a rate of 1 gallon or sufficient volume of solution to accurately and uniformly cover 10 square feet.

In situations where necessary, conventional application methods can be supplemented through use of foam generating equipment, or similar devices, to provide a continuous treated zone. Make foam application alone or in combination with conventional application methods, provided that the labeled amount of active ingredient per unit area is used. See “Mixing Table for Product Foam” on product label.

Turfgrass: Effective control is achieved when applications are made before or during the egg laying period. For best control apply prior to egg hatch of the target pest, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch. Irrigation or rainfall must occur within 24 hours after application to move the active ingredient through the thatch. Do not mow turf or lawn area until after suf?cient irrigation or rainfall has occurred so that uniformity of application will not be affected.

Each envelope contains 4 x 2.25 oz. water-soluble packets that make up to 25 gallons of finished solution each, for a total of 50-100 gallons of finished solution per envelope.

Standard Application Dilution Rates / Mixing Ratios:

   * 1 packet per 25 gallons of water – 0.05% - lower rate for termite applications

   * 2 packets per 25 gallons of water – 0.10% - most termite applications

   * 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 8,250 – 11,000 sq. ft. – in sufficient water for uniform coverage – turfgrass applications, white grub larvae, flowers and groundcovers

   * 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 300 gallons of water – foliar ornamental applications; pome fruit and pecan trees, grapes

   * 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 24 to 48 inches of cumulative trunk diameter or shrub height – soil injection or drench for systemic insect treatments

For use in the following areas:

Pre- and post-construction termite treatments around residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; around basements, attics, crawl spaces, hollow block foundations or voids; protection of fire wood; turfgrass in sites such as home lawns, business and office complexes, shopping centers, residential complexes, golf courses, airports, cemeteries, parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields; ornamentals in commercial and residential landscapes and interior plantscapes; trees, shrubs, evergreens, flowers, foliage plants, ground covers, and interior plantscapes along the outside perimeters of industrial and commercial buildings and residential areas; trees, shrubs, flowers, and ground covers along the outside perimeters of industrial and commercial buildings and residential areas and in state, national, and private wooded and forested areas; residential pome fruits: Apple, Crabapple, Loquat, Mayhaw, Pear, Oriental Pear, Quince; Pecans; Grapes

Indoors

Adonis 75 WSP is only labeled for indoor use for spot treatment in voids to active termite or other wood-infesting pest infestations.

Outdoors

For termite treatments: See above for details. Do not apply within 5 feet of any well or cistern. Treat soil between 5 and 10 feet from the well or cistern by the backfill method only.

For control of ants in houses and other structures: Apply a 0.05 to 0.1% solution as a general surface, spot, crack and crevice or wall void application. Apply to surfaces on buildings, porches, patios and other structures, around doors and windows, eaves and attic vents, utility entry points, sof?t areas and other exterior openings (including foundation cracks or drilled holes) where the pests enter the structure or where they crawl or hide. Spray into cracks and crevices. Spray, mist or foam into voids where these ants or their nests are present. Apply the volume of spray mist or foam suf?cient to cover the area, but do not allow excessive dripping or run-off to occur from vertical or overhead surfaces.

Turfgrass: Apply in sufficient water to provide adequate distribution in the treated area. Use equipment that will produce a uniform, coarse droplet spray, using a low pressure setting to eliminate off target drift. Use 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 8,250 to 11,000 sq. ft. (Each packet contains 2.25 oz.).

Foliar applications: When making foliar applications on hard to wet foliage such as holly, pine, or ivy, add a spreader/sticker, if needed. This product is a systemic product and will be translocated upward into the plant system from root uptake. To best results, place the product where the growing portion of the target plant can absorb the active ingredient. The addition of a nitrogen containing fertilizer, where applicable, into the solution may enhance the uptake of the active ingredient. Make application by foliar application or soil applications; including soil injection, drenches, and broadcast sprays. Foliar applications offer locally systemic activity against insect pests. When making soil applications to plants with woody stems, systemic activity will be delayed until the active ingredient is translocated throughout the plant. In some cases, this translocation delay could take 60 days or longer. For this reason, make applications prior to anticipated pest infestation to achieve optimum levels of control.

Use 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 300 gallons of water and start treatments prior to onset of high pest populations. Reapply on an as needed basis. For broadcast applications, use 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 8,250 to 11,000 sq. ft. in sufficient water to uniformly and accurately cover the treatment area. Do not use less than 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.

Soil drench or injection: Use 1.6 oz. (1 packet) per 24 to 48 inches of cumulative trunk diameter or shrub height in sufficient water to inject an equal amount of solution in each hole (injection) or apply uniformly (drench). For optimum control, keep the treated are moist for 7 to 10 days. For soil drench, uniformly apply the dosage in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft., directed to the root zone. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.

inexpensive and easy treatment for trees

    By Jim on 02/25/2014

    Verified Purchase

Adonis 75WSP is a cheap way to get the active ingredient Imidacloprid. I have about 70 oak, Pinion and Ponderosa trees that need annual treatment to prevent scale and bark beetles from killing them (during our extended drought in Prescott AZ). In the past, I've paid a landscaping company up to $600 to apply the same chemical. $116 of Adonis and a few hours of my time does a better job. I use the drench method and have found a convenient mixing and application method: Dissolve one 2.25 oz bag in 4 gallons of water in a 5-gal bucket. That leaves room for foam and stirring without running over. At that concentration, each gallon will treat 12" of tree trunk diameter ... or 1 quart per 3" of trunk diameter. I use a 2-gal bucket with 1 qt marks to dispense the solution to the trees by the "drench method" described in the Adonis user guide. Then use a garden hose to spray water at the base of the trees to help the solution percolate down to the roots. Some of my trees are on steep slopes, so I've dug terraced tree wells and berms beneath them so the solution will not run off. Apply the insecticide it in the winter so snow and rain will help deliver the solution to the roots. It will be absorbed into the trees to protect them before they are stressed by the heat of summer.

    Very good product

    By Richard on 07/12/2014

I used this last year for wasp and spider control. The residual affect is amazing. There are still no wasps in the gable vent that I had sprayed 12 months ago. Practically no wasps at all around the home.

    Wow!

    By Bernie on 11/01/2016

We had an infestation of subterranean termites. We actually found their entry point unintentionally. A wooden cabinet in a side room actually fell in on itself lol. When I removed it I found where they had gotten into the house. This was an exterior wall so we applied Adonis 75 into the soil as well as made a spray to use inside this area of the house. Between the two applications, liquid and spray, the termites were eradicated in just two days. A word of warning, pay close attention to the safety warnings and follow ALL recommended procedures. Do so and you'll be thrilled with the result.

I can't really say how it works yet due to the fact I just applied a week or so ago. The mixing process was pretty was easy, I had to make a phone call just to be sure, and the lady in customer service was very helpful, time will tell if it works, we will see how the trees look next spring, when I intend to apply again. I have roughly 20 Ash trees in a variety of sizes. Some were already goners, so they will be cut down this fall, check back for an update in June 2012

Q
What can I use to control worms eating my willow trees?

the worms are yellow about 1 1 1/2" and seem to emerge from cocoons that look as if they are made from the soil, I have also noticed black flying insects that look wasp like that emerge from holes in the ground in spring. what can I do to kill them the trees are much too large to spray. this the third year and I'm worried it will eventually kill my trees. I have over 50 trees on my property and they don't seem to be affecting any other type

A
If there is anything eating your tree than usually a systemic insecticide will take care of it.  To apply this though you have to perform a soil drench around the root system of each tree individually.  This is the best way to treat and prevent wood boring insects which is probably what you are experiencing on your tree.  We recommend Adonis 75 WSP which is one of our most popular systemic insecticides.

Q
I want to treat approximately 15 ash trees from 3-12 Inches in diameter. Can I use this product.

How do I Mix it if I do not have a 25 gallon tank

A
If you do not have a way to mix up 25 gallons at a time than you cannot use this product as it comes pre measured. You can use the liquid version called Adonis 2F as you can mix up as little or as much as you need at a time. You will need to use 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Adonis 2F per inch of trunk diameter depending on what you are trying to treat the trees for. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket to dilute the product with water. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. Be sure to read the Adonis 2F product label for complete usage instructions.

Q
What can I use for whiteflies on ficus hedge and gumbo limbo? Will Mallet work?

I have a 17 acre property with at least 2000 feet of ficus hedge and 40 Gumbo limbo. White flies are eating up my property. I use Bifen IT to spray the leaves but it only lasts a couple of weeks before they're back again. The area has a lot of white fly and is out of control. Is there a soil drench application that would help control this problem? I was told to use Mallet.

A
Mallet is no longer available but you can substitute it with Adonis 75, which is basically the same product just made by a different manufacturer. Adonis would be the product of choice for soil drench applications for whitefly infestations. It can take a few weeks for the Adonis to translocate through tall hedges or trees, and you will most likely continue to see whiteflies in that time period. You should continue to use the Bifen IT until the Adonis has had time to translocate through the plants.

Q
Can I use Adonis 75 WSP on the lawn for grubs? How effective is it? Do you need a sprayer?
A
Adonis 75 WSP is labeled for use on lawns to control grubs. When used as directed on the product label, Adonis does a great job controlling grubs. Timing is crucial when you are trying to eliminate grubs and we recommend that you check with your local cooperative extension office to see when the best time to treat would be in your region. You will need a sprayer to apply Adonis 75 WSP. Please note that Adonis can only be mixed in large batches as it comes premeasured in water soluble packets. For instance, if you are treating a 10,000 sq ft lawn you will need to use 20 gallons of water for one 1.6 oz water soluble packet for grub control. If mixing in large quantities is not feasible for you, you also have the option of purchasing the Merit 75 WP in the 2 oz jar which would allow you to mix up as much or as little as you need, the Adonis 2F which is the liquid version of the Adonis 75WSP which again would allow you to mix as little or as much as you like at one time or you can purchase the Imigold 0.5 Granules.
