Piston TR Insecticide

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Contents of container must be at room temperature before use; therefore, cans must be stored at room temperature (above 65°F) for 24 hours before application. Elevate the container so that the top of the can is above the top of plant canopy and clear a 3 foot area around the can. Make sure spray is unobstructed by foliage or other physical objects in order to obtain maximum distribution of fog.

Notice: Good greenhouse management must overrule the use of this product when conditions that would harm plant foliage or flowers might be created by tightly closing greenhouses. DO NOT use this product in greenhouses with unvented or defective gas heating systems or when open combustion exists.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Use Sites:

Fruiting vegetables and ornamental crops in commercial greenhouses including, but not limited to:

• Fruiting Vegetables (Tomato, Eggplant, Pepper [bell, chili, cooking, pimento, sweet], Tomatillo, etc.)
• Bedding plants
• Containerized plants
• Cut flowers
• Evergreens
• Flowering plants
• Foliage plants
• Ground covers
• Non-bearing fruit and nut trees and vines
• Ornamental trees and shrubs

Mode of Action:

The active ingredient in this product, chlorfenapyr, is a member of the class of miticides/ insecticides known as pyrroles (Group 13). This product is effectively introduced to the insect by contact and feeding activity.

For resistance-management, Piston TR contains a Group 13 insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Piston TR and other Group 13 insecticides. The resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of insecticides are used repeatedly in the same fields. Appropriate resistance management strategies should be followed. To reduce the potential for developing insect resistance, rotate to an insecticide with a different mode of action. Monitor treated pest populations for resistance development. Read product label before applying any insecticide and follow label directions.

Total Release Dosage:

For dosage by pest, see Table 1 on label for Pests Controlled by Piston TR. Thorough coverage is achieved by the normal air movement within a greenhouse. The chemical will move around and throughout the plant foliage due to the small particle size produced and the normal ebb and flow movement of the air. Both top and bottom of the plant foliage is covered with particles during application. When applying to fruiting vegetables, allow at least 7 days between each application, and DO NOT use on tomato varieties with a diameter <1 inch when mature.

DO NOT use in small, enclosed spaces such as closets, cabinets or under counters or tables. Use of a fogger in an enclosed space may cause it to explode, resulting in injury to people or damage to property.

To Start Fogging:

Hold the container facing away from the body and depress the actuator until it is locked down. Once the container has been activated, place the container in the plant-free zone, vacate the structure immediately, and close the door.

Pests Controlled:

Mites, including: Two-spotted Spider mite (Tetranychus urticae and other Tetranychus sp.), Broad mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus), Citrus budmite (Eriophyes pallidus), Rust mite (Phyllocoptruta sp., Epitrimerus sp., and Aculus sp.) This product does not control egg mite stage. Caterpillars, including immature and adult stages of caterpillar such as: Beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua), Cabbage looper (Trichoplusia ni), Soybean looper (Pseudoplusia includens). Thrips, including: Immature stage of Chilli thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood), Western Flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis).

Plant Safety Information:

The phytotoxic potential of this product has been assessed on a wide variety of common ornamental plants with no phytotoxicity observed. Not all plant species, varieties, and cultivars have been tested for tolerance to this product or pesticide treatments preceding or following those of this product.

Local conditions can also influence plant tolerance and may not match those under which Atticus has conducted testing. Test the product on a sample of the plants to be treated to ensure that a phytotoxic response will not occur prior to large-scale use. Because many cultivars within a plant species vary in tolerance to chemical applications and growing conditions, the grower must recognize these differences and test the product accordingly.

At a minimum, always test a small group of representative plants for tolerance to this product under local growing conditions and before large-scale use.

Grower assumes responsibility for testing species suitability under local growing conditions by treating a small number of plants at the specified rate. At a minimum, this should include evaluating treated plants for several weeks following treatment for possible injury or other effects. To the extent consistent with applicable law, by applying this product, the user assumes responsibility for any crop damage or other liability associated with factors beyond the manufacturer’s control, such as weather, presence of other materials, and manner or use of application. Follow all restrictions and limitations on this label.

To minimize the risk of injury to ornamentals:

• Avoid application to plugs in early stages of development (1 to 2 leaf stage) as phytotoxicity may develop to some tender crops. If application is intended for this plant state, test this product on a small number of plants before doing large-scale treatments because phytotoxicity can occur to plugs at the 1 to 2 leaf stage.
• Make applications prior to blooming or avoid blooms where possible.
• Apply during the cooler parts of the day.

Plants listed in Table 3 on the label for Plant Species Not Tolerant to Piston TR have been found, under certain circumstances, to be less tolerant to this product. Applications to these crops are made at user risk.

Vegetables Approved for Piston TR Use:

Eggplant, Groundcherry, Pepinos, Peppers, Tomatillo, Tomato* (*DO NOT use on tomato varieties with a diameter <1 inch when mature).

Plant Species Not Tolerant to Piston TR:

Dianthus (including carnations, pinks, and Sweet William varieties), Florist Azalea, Kalanchoe, Poinsettia, Roses, Salvia, Zinnia.
