Product Overview

The Anderson’s Black Gypsum DG is a homogeneous granular formula that provides a natural source of humic acid and calcium to your soil. It features Dispersing Granule Technology which develops a spherical, ultra-dry, and dust-free granule that dissolves into microparticle when it comes in contact with moisture. It then distributes Sulfur, Calcium, and Humate straight to the soil without altering its pH level. The combination of humic substances and natural gypsum creates a unique bio-amendment to help boost nutrient uptake, as well as improve root development and stability of phosphorus. It stimulates soil microbial population and effectively relieves salinity and compaction to promote a healthier soil. It may be applied on crops, turf, agricultural, fruits and vegetables, nurseries, gardens, landscape trees, shrubs, and flowers. It is OMRI listed so it is safe for organic gardening. This product can be used stand-alone, but it works just as great when mixed with other fertilizers. Available in 50 lb. bag.

GUARANTEED ANALYSIS:

  • Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate - 48.0%
  • Calcium - 12.0%
  • Sulfur - 8.9%

Plant nutrients derived from calcium sulfate and mined gypsum.

CONTAINS NON-PLANT FOOD INGREDIENT: 12% plant based organic acids and 21% humic acid derived from leonardite.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Apply any time as a soil conditioner. Designed to deliver available sulfur, calcium and Humate to a wide variety of vegetable, field and horticultural crops. Black Gypsum’s manufacturing process reduces rate of application necessary, compared to AG grade products. Follow your soil analysis recommendations of pH, OMC, CEC and soil active carbon analysis. Apply only as directed. For use on crops, establishment or maintenance of turf, agricultural, fruits and vegetables, nursery crops, gardens, landscape trees, shrubs and flowers. This product will not increase soil pH. It may lower or reduce the soil pH of unproductive, highly alkaline sodium soils.

Applied to saline-sodic soils, the gypsum will loosen the heavy, hard packed soil, allowing water and air to penetrate and move freely in the soil. Also utilized to repair areas damaged from winter salt and fertilizer.

When establishing a new turf area, apply prior to or directly after seeding, or while hydroseeding. Irrigation of 0.2 to 0.4 inches will help the granules disperse (not required for hydroseeding) and self-incorporate into the soil. High clay soils and/or colder temperatures will require a higher rate and additional time to self-incorporate due to the fine soil particles. Product will disperse throughout hydroseeding slurry.

For corrective soil remediation on established turf areas, apply in Spring and Fall. Multiple applications may be necessary depending on cultural situation.

For ornamentals maintenance place product around the base of each plant in Spring and Fall. For small trees and shrubs apply 1 to 2 cups. For larger trees use 1 cup per caliper inch.

For establishing ornamentals mix Black Gypsum with the Back Fill (soil) from excavation for the plant. For small trees, up to 3 inches in caliper, use 1 cup per caliper inch of tree. Trees 3 caliper inch or larger use 2 cups per caliper inch.

For establishing ornamental container grown stock into your landscape, see the chart in the label.

To aid in the generation of compost, spread approximately 2 cups over the top of the material in the cart (every 3 cubic foot of material) as it is dumped into the compost pile. Add 2 cups (for every 3 cubic foot) every time compost is turned until the compost is complete.

For turf and garden applications: Immediately after application, for optimum results and to disperse the granules, apply a minimum of 0.2 to 0.4 inches of water. If a second watering is needed to complete the dispersion, wait 10 minutes and again apply a minimum of 0.1 inches of water.

Agricultural application: Apply to soils that are compacted, low CEC, sandy soil, as well as soils impacted by salinity. Can be applied with blended fertilizer to increase applied nutrient efficacy and plant availability.

Maintenance:

  • 200 to 400 pounds per acre
  • Soil detoxification: 600 to 800 lbs. per acre
  • Blending with fertilizer: 300 to 600 pounds per ton

    Gorgeous results!

    By Mundah on 05/18/2022

I applied BG DG with 28-0-3 fertilizer as my first Spring feed and the results were stunning. I'll now be using this combination to jump-start the turf coming out of winter every year from now on. I've already purchased another three bags for next year's opening round.

Q
Can The Anderson's Black Gypsum DG be used to neutralize the acid from female dog's urine?
A

Andersons Black Gypsum DG does not specify whether or not it neutralizes dog urine. However, while gypsum is often touted to “neutralize” dog urine, it cannot neutralize excess nitrogen. Some dog owners report success with gypsum, but it may simply be that it improves soil drainage, which prevents the urine from collecting near the crowns and roots of the grass plants.
