Product Overview

The Anderson’s HCU 44-0-0 Humic Coated Urea fertilizer is developed with exclusive technology that produces 44-0-0 nitrogen granules. These granules are bonded with potassium humate which enhances the soil's biological and chemical properties. Those properties include nutrient efficiency, micronutrient uptake, water holding capacity, and soil nutrient holding capacity. HCU granules break down into humic and fluvic acid which makes it 100% soluble for use in dry and liquid applications. Compatible with most broadly used control products to maintain fine turfgrass during both warm and cool season. This concentrated soluable granular fertilizer can be used by mixing in water for a foliar spray application or dry broadcast application through standard granular spreader equipment. Available in a 50-pound bag.

    Fescue Looks Incredible!

    By Mr. on 05/13/2023

So this product, for just being urea is a little high, but I'm in North Carolina and my fescue is gorgeous! You get the benefit of adding humic acid and urea nitrogen either by granular or liquid. I chose to spray, and got several apps out of this bag for my 8k sq ft lawn. The color is by far the best I've seen on my GCI turf grass. Will be using it again.

    Best kept secret

    By Roger on 06/24/2022

Let's hope the “influencers” don't find out about this stuff or it will double in price. I've only used it as a solubilized spoon fed solution and it really works great. Using on hybrid Bermuda

Q
Does The Andersons HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea slow nitrogen release from the urea when applied as a liquid?
A

The biggest difference when you are applying The Andersons HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea as a liquid is that you are applying less product per application that you would when applying it as a broadcast granule. So you can apply up to 0.25 lbs of N per 1000 sq ft when you are diluting it in water, while as a granule you can apply up to 1 lb of N per 1000 sq ft per application. This product is not a slow release fertilizer, so the length of reponse time you have from each application will depend on the rate of product applied, not necessarily how you applied it.

Q
Will The Anderson's HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea release N at lower soil temperatures?

Can this product be applied as a granular late-season fertilizer to encourage root growth? Is it effective at lower soil temperatures of around 45-50

A

The Andersons HCU 44-0-0 Humic Coated Urea would not be applied in the fall for a few different reasons. If you are looking for root development and a fertilizer that promotes that growth, you would need a fertilizer with a much lower Nitrogen content and a higher percentage of phosphorus (the middle number of the 3). You also do not want to apply that high of nitrogen levels late in the season as too much Nitrogen late in the year can create disease issues such as dollar spot the following spring.

Q
Is Anderson's HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea a quick release fertilizer?

Our extension service recommends two fertilizer schedules, one for quick release and one for slow release. Since this seems to have zero WIN, I assume it's quick release? Thanks.

A

The Andersons HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea is a quick release fertilizer.

Q
Square ft coverage on The Anderson's HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea

How many sq ft does the entire bag cover in total?

A

How much area the Andersons HCU 44-0-0 Humic Coated Urea covers will depend on the rate at which you wish to apply it. For a dry broadcast application you can apply at 0.75 - 1.5 lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sq ft, which would be at rates of 1.7 - 3.41 lbs of the product per 1000 sq ft. That would mean the 50 pound bag covers 14,000 - 29,000 sq ft when applied as a dry broadcast. Spray application rates will be lower since you need the product to dilute in water.

Please refer to the product label here for complete application instructions.

Q
Will the The Anderson's HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea be slow or quick release?
A

The Andersons HCU 44 - 0 - 0 Humic Coated Urea is more of a controlled-release fertilizer. According to the product label, HCU granules utilize a technology which bonds a uniform coating over a urea granule, not acting as a physical barrier to slow nitrogen release, but works in unison with urea to promote and enhance soil biology.  For more specific product information or questions not listed on the label, you may wish to contact the manufacturer The Andersons directly via their website's contact page here.
