Ambush bait station works with bait or T-Rex Rat Trap
By Davesandiego on 08/31/2016
I use the Ambush Bait Station with the T-Rex Rat Trap (the trap fits perfectly); I chose not to use it with bait, after a previous problem with a rat dropping some of the bait, and my dog eating it. The Ambush Bait Station could be improved if it had a "window" so that I didn't have to open it up the bait station to see if there was a rat in the trap, or the bait was missing and/or significantly eaten.

Solid design nearly impossible to open without keys
By Jeff on 12/30/2014
The design is great, thick plastic material and highly tamper resistant. I have dogs in the area of these stations so I really put them through the ringer attempting to open forcefully, even smashing them against the pavement. The bait never fell out and I can safely say they are nearly impossible to open without the keys.

I'm saving $$
By Jim on 10/26/2016
I've been paying $190/month for a private pest control service. I'm now doing it myself. This is a big savings. Deployed two of the Protecta EVO Ambush Bait Stations (each with a baited T-Rex snap-trap) and already killed a rat after 3 days. Only negative thing is disposing the body.

These work with the T-Rex rat traps. Using these for a rat problem along with Fastrac bait and it seems to have successfully treated a major problem with chipmunks too. Both bait and traps. I think the rats were using the old chipmunk burrows. The 8”d x 10”w x 3-1/2”h EVO stations are sturdy and tough enough to stand on, not too heavy but found they needed to be tethered with a line due to opussum and/or coon shaking them for the bait. The bait blocks are held with wire rods and there's a removable bottom tray to make some separation with the bottom of the station should water runoff enter. Designed with baffle rather than straight through passage that hides the snap trap/bait. Indoors, I can fit a Victor glue board inside with a little trimming. The security key to unlock these is an inconvenience, though easy to push in to open them. Problem is having that appx. 1” Square Key accessible. Bought 6 pack of stations and only 1 key is provided. I attached it to a big orange paint stick so I won't lose it making the bait refill rounds. Easy to disable/unlatch the plastic security tab lock (if desired) should you lose that only key. A simple wire tie thru a hole would be a fast fix....unless one expect kids to tamper with the stations, in that case keep the station locked. Overall - Very satisfied with the EVO Ambush bait station.

Good product, but doesn't last forever.
By Andy on 07/12/2019
Great product and well priced but, In the hot Southern California sun the plastic hinge fails after a year or two. So, while it still works with the locking “door” the back of the door is readily accessible by a human making it no longer “locked” for kids and pets. So as long as you plan for that eventuality, you should be good.

Rodent bait station
By David on 07/03/2020
The protected Evo ambush bait station. For the price it is ok. It is sometimes hard to open and close. And you have to tie or fasten it down. It holds 4 one once blocks. Once fastened it can be cleaned out by removing the insert. Overall it is a good buy. 4 stars.

Expectations met.
By Mark on 05/23/2020
I have ordered 3 of these a year ago. Arrived and performed to expectations. Was disappointed that only one key was provided. A year later, I had lost the key in the bushes, ordered a replacement and 2 more bait stations. Arrived to expectations. I am surprised that the plastic around the installed bait was gnawed at and damaged by rats/rodents. They are taking that bait, which is important, and I continue to see a activity in the bait stations, however I have not seen any live animals, which was the goal.

Good compact station.
By Kevin on 05/01/2020
I really like the low profile of this station - it doesn't stick out like other models. As such, you will need to stake it in place since it doesn't come with a pavee or weight (to protect the station from dogs or children). For those worried about the smaller size, I had a fat city rat who had no problem squeezing in there to get bait.

Not good for Oat Bait
By Jo on 05/13/2022
Had a pest operator try to use this with loose oat bait and a long nail to hold the station in place. Bait moves around and pours out with the slightest tilt. I think it should be more clear that tamper resistance is only tested with block baits. Tier 1 would nit be acheivable with loose bait.

Racoon Proof!
By Randy on 05/22/2024
For several years I was using the B&G Rodent Cafe's to help control mice. At one of my commercial properties they seemed to attract Racoons and other small mammals. I was spending $2000-$3000 a year just to have Racoons removed to give the traps a chance to control mice. Last year I ordered 1 of every trap on this site, and put them through some tests. This is the trap that won out. The side opening clam shell works great to prevent them from prying loose corners open. Also there is a wall in the trap that prevents them from reaching in and grabbing poison. I have about 24 of these installed now and they are working great. No need to pay for Racoon removal any more!

We have a remote log hunting cabin on 200 acres in northern Michigan We don't have electric power so we have propane lights, refrigerator and cook stove with wood heat. At first, our cabin was overrun with mice and red squirrels. We placed bait boxes outside at the four corners and two inside the cabin. We haven't seen a mouse or red squirrel since.
