    Q
How much Safari 20SG do I use for EAB treatment?
Hi, I'm trying to figure the correct amount of Safari granules to add to one gallon of water to use in my garden sprayer. I am treating 6 smaller ash trees approx. 7-8” diameter each. Thank you.
    A

You can use Safari 20SG as either a soil drench around the base of the trees or as a basal trunk treatment. If you are using a 1 gallon sprayer, then it sounds like you are wanting to do a basal trunk treatment. You would use 12 – 24 oz per gallon of water.  Depending on bark type and thickness, one gallon of spray solution will typically cover 65-85” of cumulative trunk diameter.

    Q
What concentration of Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran should I use for a basal trunk spray to kill spotted lanternflies?
I plan on treating a "host" Alanthus tree to draw SLFs with a spray 5-6ft up the trunk from ground level. Should the spray be used to just wet the bark, or wet the trunk to where the spray runs down the trunk and puddles at the root flare?
    A

Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran can be applied as a basal trunk spray (instructions on page 14) but is not specifically labeled for spotted lantern flies. We recommend that you consult with your local cooperative extension office for additional options.

What is the shelf life of Safari 20SG after the bottle is opened?
Am considering getting the large size but it may take me a while to get through it. I am talking about how long it lasts unmixed, just in the bottle. THANKS

Safari 20SG should be stable on the shelf at least 3 years if stored in a dry, temperate environment out of direct sunlight.

    Q
What is the best method to apply Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran for woolly aphids on hackberry trees?
It appears that "1.5 - 2.0 fl. oz. of product per inch of the trunk diameter, mixed in at least 5-10 gallons of water" may be suggested. Would better results be obtained by injecting around the base of the tree, or injecting into the tree? I have a D30 pump and tanks.
    A

Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is not labeled to be used on anything edible. Please inform if you are not consuming berries or not for an alternate recommendation or application rate. Thank you!

  • Asked by Steve from Johns Island, Sc
    03/23/2018
    Q
What is the soil drench application rate of Safari for tea scale on Camellias?
    A

When doing a soil drench with Safari 20SG or any other systemic insecticide, the exact amount of water is not as important as using the correct amount of product. Your water is a carrier for the active ingredient, so you just need to use a sufficient volume of water to mix and apply the insecticide. To treat shrubs, you would use 3 to 6 grams (1.25 - 2.5 level teaspoons) of Safari 20SG per foot of shrub height, using 1-4 pints of water per foot of shrub height or per inch of trunk diameter for trees.

  • Asked by Seth from Dallas, Tx
    02/13/2018
    Q
Which rate should I use for application of Safari 20SG on hedges?
We have a 4 ft tall, 100' foot long Holly hedge composed of 40 individual plants that we would like to drench with Safari 20SG. Based on the label, the high rate for a 4' x 100' hedge is 4 oz of Safari 20SG. However, if I calculate per individual shrub within the hedge it comes out to approximately 0.85 oz per 4' Holly for a total of 34 oz for the entire hedge. Using 4 oz of product vs 34 oz of product seems dramatically different. Is this correct or am I missing something here?
    A

We understand the different rate directions can be confusing on the Safari 20SG. You should get great results from using the higher rate under the product label directions for use on hedges. Since your hedges are in a row and so close together, some of the active ingredient from each plant's root system would reach over to the neighboring plants. So you could use the rate of 1 oz per foot of hedge height per 100 linear feet rate, which would put you at 4 oz for 100 linear feet of shrubs which is 4 feet high.

    Q
Do you know how I would mix Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran to achieve a 20% solution?
    A

Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is not mixed to get a 20% solution.  It contains 20% Dinotefuran so there are no instructions for applying at that percentage.  The rate when mixed will be lower and depends on what you are treating for and what you are treating on and is not percentage based.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions for your need.

  • Asked by Tess from Houston, Tx
    07/11/2017
    Q
Is Safari 20SG harmful to caterpillars if sprayed in the same greenhouse?
The insecticide was applied directly to some grasses in a greenhouse, with care to avoid a caterpillar host plant on an adjacent table. However, I am still worried that if a small amount got onto the host plant, it would be harmful to any larvae that ingest it.
    A

It is possible that caterpillars will be affected if Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is applied directly to the plants that they are consuming. If they are just sprayed in the same greenhouse, the product should not affect them.

    Q
How much Safari 20SG and water do I use for trunk spray of a Hemlock that is 24 inches in diameter and infested with wooly adelgids?
About one third of the needles are gone. Tree is about 60 feet high.
    A

Per page 9 of the Safari 20SG supplemental label for basal trunk spray the rate will vary depending on your dilution rate.  You would use 12 – 24 oz per gallon of water.  Depending on bark type and thickness, one gallon of spray solution will typically cover 65-85” of cumulative trunk diameter.
