How much Safari 20SG do I add to 16 ounces of water in a Gilmour 362 hose end sprayer?

We need more information in order to answer your question properly. What are you treating for? What exactly are you treating on? Keep in mind that Safari 20SG Insecticide is a systemic that needs to be mixed in no less than 10 gallons of water.

  • Asked by Mary from Huntersville

    Q
Will Safari 20SG prepared as a soil drench control scale on a pin oak?
Pin oak is planted in a 3 foot strip of soil between the road and sidewalk in a subdivision. No wonder it's stressed!
    A
Safari is certainly labeled to control scale, but honestly if will control it or not will depend more on what type of scale it is (soft or armored) and what life cycle/stage it is in as more mature stages can be almost impossible to control. Can you give us more information or see if a pest control company in your area can identify the type of scale you have?

  • Asked by John from Maryland

    Q
Is a surfactant recommended for basal bark treatment of hemlock woolly adelgid?
10-70 cm dbh hemlocks. The larger ones have very woody bark.
    A

Per the product label, you can mix Safari 20SG with a surfactant, but it may not be very helpful for woolly adelgids in particular since they are mostly controlled by ingesting the active ingredient rather than by contact:

Tank mixing with a surfactant may improve control of pests such as whitefly, mealybug and scale. Confirm plant safety of tank mix in small area before using on a commercial scale.

    Q
Sensation Maple with Armored or Oyster scale
Which product (Zylam or Safari) would work best for an armored scale or oyster shell scale on a Sensation Maple tree. Would I use either product as a drench or trunk spray? Thank you so very much for a reply!!!!!
    A
Either product will work very well to control armored scale on your Maple tree. It would be best to use the Safari 20 SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuron as a systemic soil drench as well as a foliar spray. Please be sure to read the product label before complete use instructions.

What's a good surfactant to mix with Safari 20SG Dinotefuran for Emerald Ash Borer?
I want maximum penetration into the tree.

The Non-Ionic Surfactant for Herbicides would be a great choice. It will increase the penetration, coverage and overall effectiveness of almost any herbicide, fungicide or insecticide.

    Q
Will Safari 20SG control/prevent Elm Leaf Beetle?
I have a customer who has 2- 50 ft tall Siberian or American Elms on her property, I would rather apply Safari as a basal trunk application than to apply a foliar application due to the potential for drift. Aslo, the uptake timing is approx. 2-3 weeks? thx.
    A
Yes, Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is labeled for leaf beetles and can be used as a basal system application by spacing injections evenly around trunk no more than 12" out from the base. Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide with Dinotefuran is a super systemic with a faster uptake that normally takes about 3 weeks to translocate.

    Q
How many cumulative inches of tree will Safari 20SG 3lb jug treat for Emerald Ash Borer?
    A
Per page 9 of the Safari 20SG supplemental label for basal trunk spray the rate will vary depending on your dilution rate.  You would use 12 – 24 oz per gallon of water.  Depending on bark type and thickness, one gallon of spray solution will typically cover 65-85” of cumulative trunk diameter

  • Asked by Dinah from Texas
    11/26/2013
    Q
How much do I need to treat a sago palm for cycade scale?
What are the proportions to dilute Safari? How much Safari product do I need to treat the palm 5-6 times? Will Safari kill the existing scale (so that I don't have to cut off the infested leaves), or do I still need to cut all infested leaves (which is almost all the leaves) and only treat whatever will be left of the palm with Safari?
    A
The dilution rate for a foliar spray would be 1.0 tsp per gallon of water to cover 200 sq ft. We recommend that you speak with the manufacturer of Safari so they can provide additional treatment options and times using their product. Valent Corp 800.682.5368

  • Asked by Irvin from Loveland, Co
    10/12/2013
    Q
You answer about pine bark beetles is in error and should be clarified
Pine bark beetles are longhorned beetles (genus Dendroctonus) whose larvae are round-headed borers, both of which are listed on the label. Same for imidacloprid. This is not to say that either product is 100 percent effective because infestations of flat-headed borers are difficult to treat after they reach the heartwood. But adults must chew their way in and out through sapwood where they are susceptible.
    A
Thank you for your feedback. Our answer comes as a result of much research and speaking to industry experts and field researchers. Pine bark beetles have been shown time and again through univeristy field testing that they are not controlled by systemic insecticides such as dinotefuran and imidacloprid. In this case we do stand by our original answer. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Will Safari 20SG be effective on infested trees with pine bark beetles or used for prevention only?
    A
Safari 20SG Systemic Insecticide is not specifically labeled for pine bark beetles. The biggest key with this insect is timing to ensure the infestation doesn't get out of hand. Once the tree is infested there isnt much you can do other than chop down the tree and burn it to try and prevent the current live ones from getting into any neighboring trees.
