    Q
Will Sevin Concentrate it hurt the bees?
the bees are busy pollenating. the fly control predators are also busy will this hurt them? I have sprayed squashes, pumpkins and cucumbers once, but not sure if all the bugs are gone.
    A
According to the Sevin Concentrate product label "This product is highly toxic to honeybees and other bees. Do not apply to plants in bloom." Almost all insecticides are toxic to bees as they are non-selective. You can help limit any effect to bees by being careful not to apply the insecticides when bees are actively foraging in the area.

  • Asked by Jeff from Medina, Oh

    Q
Will Sevin Kill Yellowheaded Spruce Sawflies on my Norway Spruce Trees without damaging the trees?
    A

Yes, you can use Sevin Concentrate as a topical spray on spruce or other ornamentals for sawfly treatment. According to the product label, you should apply 1.5 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water and spray upper and lower leaf surfaces and small trunks, stems and twigs to the point of runoff where pests appear. Repeat applications as necessary up to a total of four times per year for trees and six times per year for ornamental shrubs and flowers, but not more than once every seven days.

We would also recommend using a systemic insecticide in the late Spring or early Summer for these pests, such as Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench.

    Q
Why is Sevin prohibited for lawn use?
    A
Even though Sevin Insecticide Granules and Sevin Concentrate have the same active ingredients, they have different formulations. Because they have different formulations, they have separate Product Labels that have separate use instructions. For more detailed information as to why the Sevin Insecticide Granules can be used on lawns, where the Sevin Concentrate is limited to vegetables, fruit, and ornamentals please contact the manufacture, GardenTech at 866-945-5033.

  • Asked by Elaine from Chagrin Falls, Oh

    Q
Can Sevin Concentrate be used for Japanese beetles on basil?
Basil is not listed on the PHI literature. I sprayed the Sevin ready to use this morning. Temps are in low 90's. Just had a very severe downpour. How soon should I spray again. And how long to wait before eating the basil?
    A

Unfortunately Sevin Concentrate is not labeled to be used on basil.  Any basil sprayed with it should be discarded and not eaten.  Ferti-lome Triple Action would be a better option, applied in early morning before temperatures get too hot.

  • Asked by Danny from Cedartown, Ga

    Q
What setting on a hose-end sprayer do you use to spray Sevin Concentrate?
what setting do you use to spray Sevin Concentrate with a hose end sprayer such as Ortho Dial n Spray. The label says you can apply with this method, but it does not reference a setting.
    A
Because every hose-end sprayer is different, we cannot say specifically what setting you will need to use. The water is just acting as a carrier for the concentrate, so you should start with a low setting and see how much water you use to cover a small area and then adjust your settings accordingly. There is more detail in the chart of page 5 of the product label.

    Q
Will squirrels eat sweet corn sprayed with Sevin?
    A
Since squirrels are attracted to sweet corn, they could potentially ingest Sevin Concentrate. Please keep in mind that after Sevin is diluted there is only a large enough amount active ingredient to kill small insects. The squirrel would have to ingest a lot of corn treated with sevin for it to harm them.

  • Asked by Theresa from Proctorville, Oh
    12/17/2011
    Q
Can I use Sevin on my couch and carpet?
I was told that I could use Sevin-5 in home on couch, carpet, and that it would kill everything. Me or my pet, was told just to wait no longer than 2 days before sweeping up, also told that people were using it on pets instead of Frontline or other. Is this true?
    A
Sevin (at least the Sevin product that we carry) is not labeled for use on couches or carpets, and it is not labeled for use on pets.  So we cannot comment on the validity of those statements. We can only make recommendations based on the instructions on the product.

    Q
I have an older bottle Sevin Concentrate that has turned brownish in color. Is it old?
    A

It is possible that the bottle of Sevin Concentrate you have could be old.  If you shake the bottle and the contents do not mix, this is a good indication that you have old product.  If the product was allowed to freeze or if is over 5 years old, we recommend that you purchase fresh product.

  • Asked by Ramona from Beulah , North Dakota
    06/29/2015
    Q
Can Sevin Concentrate be used on evergreen trees, ash trees, plum trees, and Japanese lilacs
I had the trees sprayed by a lawn service and he used Sevin that hooks up to a water hose. My trees have leaves curling up and one tree they are turning brown and leaves are falling off. Is there anything I can do to help my trees or are they ok?
    A
While we cannot comment on the services done by professional companies we can say that Sevin Concentrate is labeled to treat for insects on ornamental trees and on plum trees. It is possible a disease could be effecting the trees and causing the damage unless insects where identified as the cause.  WIthout knowing exactly what is causing the issues we cannot make recommendations on what you can do to help the trees.  The trees should be fine with an application of Sevin if used as directed on the product label.
