Product Overview

Copper Stuf-fit is a unique exlusion material that prevents pesky rodents from entering your home or office building. The Copper Stuffit is a copper mesh wool material that is rust-proof and stain-proof. Stuff it into openings around pipes or other holes and cracks in the structure and keep rats, mice, birds and other wildlife out. Because of the way the mesh is woven, it is very difficult for rodents to chew through it. Stuf-fit works best in holes and cracks around 2 inches in diameter. Larger holes should be repaired and sealed permanently. Each roll is 6 inches wide, double folded and comes in either 20 ft. or 100 ft. long rolls.

    Smart product. Inspector Approved!

    By Inspector7 on 09/25/2011

Copper mesh is clean and easy to work with. I've run my own home inspection business for 12 years. This is a big step up from stuffing steel wool in holes only to see it rust away in a few years and stain. Just be sure as with all copper, that it doesn't come in direct contact with galvanized metal flashings or pipes.

Not One Mouse Since Installing Mesh

    By Barbara on 12/08/2010

It works. The mesh is very soft and pliable so it molds well to whatever crevice or space there is.

    100' is too much?

    By Frank on 07/24/2011

I guess my house is smaller than I thought. I ordered 100' roll of STUF-FIT knowing I'd have some left, but I used less than half. I don't know if I didn't "STUF-FIT" too tight or too loose. Instructions (next time) might help. I must have put enough into the weep holes though because the spiders and other crawlies haven't found their way in yet. Cuts easy. Packs easy, too. Overall, well pleased. If I was a nice guy, I'd offer to do my neighbors' houses with the leftovers, but I'm not.

Easy to use and cuts easily. Used it on corners where vinyl siding come together to ward off mice. Insulate with spray foam insulation as a final step.

STUF-IT is a pretty clever idea. You can apply it in minutes, does not leave a mess and seems to work.

Q
What can I use to kill lizards around our front door that are waiting to get inside?

These lizards are small to medium and they turn a light cream color to match our house. They are found around the entrance of our front door; like above our heads on the ceiling covered porch, on the outside door frame and walls.

A

There are no toxic products labeled for lizards, geckos or any reptiles or amphibians, and given the highly beneficial nature of these creatures there is not likely to be any products for them any time soon. The reason they are on your property is because they can find food and harborage. Take away their food and they will forage somewhere else. Take away the conditions they need for hiding and they will seek refuge someplace else.

You really have two options here:

1.Exclusion. Total exclusion can be hard to achieve particularly around the roof-line where there are going to be gaps that would be very hard to close off, but there also could be some obvious flaws such as broken vent screens, holes around cables, pipes or wires, or gaps under doors. All of these can easily be closed with brush strips, caulking, copper mesh (Stuf-fit), or some other suitable material. Exclusion is the best choice, because it is permanent, and eliminates or reduces the problem in the future too.

2.Outdoor habitat modification. In short get rid of the reasons lizards are there in the first place. They are there because they are finding the food they need to survive (insects) and a place to harbor. If you can eliminate either of these essentials, you can get rid of the lizards. Spray a good residual insecticide such as Cyper WP around the outside of your home to help cut down on the number of insects the lizards are eating. If lizards cannot find enough food they will either move on or starve. Eliminate as much clutter and debris around the outside of your home as possible to eliminate the places lizards like to hide. Rake back mulch or rocks at least 6 inches from the structure

If you need to get rid of the lizards that are already indoors the only options are catching them by hand or using glueboards placed in areas where the lizards travel.

Q
What is Stuf-Fit Copper Mesh used for exactly?
A

The Stuf-Fit Copper Mesh  is used to close openings that rodents can get into.  It is usually used with expanding foam. Typically, if you close an opening around a pipe or wire with just expanding foam, the rodents will eat through it. If you place Stuf-Fit Copper Mesh in the hole first and then use expanding foam, the foam will encase the mesh. Then if rodents try to chew through the foam, they will ingest the tiny shards of the mesh and it will kill the rodents. You can easily cut the Stuf-Fit Copper Mesh with a pair of scissors to fit any sized opening.

Q
Do I need to cement after I use Stuff-it mesh?

I have gaps between my house siding and foundation. To prevent rats from entering my house, do I need to apply a sealant(cement) after I use Stuff-It.? Or will using Stuff-it be enough and how long does the product last?

A
Stuff-it alone in cracks and areas where there are gaps is usually not enough to deter rodents since they can easily pull it out.  You should either cement the stuffit in place or typically you would at least use an expandable foam in the crack or gap which will hold the stuff-it in place and prevent it from easily being pulled out.
