We contacted the manufacturer, and they have recently added Fungus Gnats to their Mosquito Bits Label. You will be treating the soil with the Mosquito granules and when you water the granules in. This will release the active ingredient BTI into the soil so when the fungus gnat larvae feeds on the treated soil they will die.
Summit Mosquito Bits can be used to for fungus gnat larvae in soil then watered in. This would be safe in a vegetable garden for this pest only.
Sprinkle one teaspoon of Summit Mosquito Bits per 25 square feet or one tablespoon per 75 square feet over the surface of the containerized standing water found around home. So for a bird bath you can really just use a very small amount.
Yes, per the manufacturer, Summit Mosquito Bits can be used in the irrigation system.
Yes, the Summit Mosquito Bits - 30 oz. can be used in animal water troughs.
The Summit Mosquito Bits are a larvicide designed for being applied directly to standing water areas. This is not for applying to the soil or directly to plants as that would not allow the product to work. This product would be need to be used in areas of standing water to keep larvae from hatching/emerging such as in bird baths, drainage ditches, pools, ponds, etc.
If the plants around the patio are all ornamental (no edible vegetation) you could spray them down with a product like Bifen I/T for mosquito and general insect control. If you have edibles, the edible vegetation would need to be sprayed with a product safe for that use and consumption, which would be something like Sevin Concentrate or Essentria All Purpose.
Summit Mosquito Bits does not indicate instructions on the label for making a tea. It should only be applied as directed to: Water gardens, bird baths, flower pots, tree holes, animal watering troughs, unused swimming pools, old automobile tires, roof gutters, rain barrels.
