When treating for yellow jackets and using Tempo 1% Dust, the yellow jacket colony will remain active for only one summer, after which the queens will move away to start up new colonies. The remaining yellow jackets will die at the end of the season, and the nest will not get reused. So during the meantime while they are active the Tempo 1% Dust that you have applied should kill the ones that are in the void that you have placed it in. That does not necessarily mean that there is a nest in that particular void. The nest could be elsewhere, and they could be foraging for food or these could just be the remaining yellow jackets that are left behind after the queens have left already.
Basically, the biggest con to the Bulb duster is that you would be closer to the nest and stinging insects, than if you used a hand duster like the Long Shot Puffer duster. The dust works great when applied by either. Be sure to apply in the cooler times of the day when the Yellow Jackets are less active.
Tempo 1% Dust will work great for wasp and will not harm Evergreen Shrubs.
Our most popular dust for bees/wasp is Tempo Dust. You will need a hand duster to apply it with. It usually works within 24 to 48 hours, and will provide a better transfer effect that diatomaceous earth. You want to go up to the opening where they are flying in and out of at dusk or at night when they are not active and puff twice directly into the hole. Then pull the duster out and puff directly at the hole to cover the opening from about 5 inches away. This is the most efficient and fastest way to eliminate a bee/yellow jacket/wasp nest.
If you are seeing hornets coming in and out through cracks in the retaining wall, then a great product to use would be Tempo 1% Dust. You should apply the Tempo 1% Dust with a duster such as the B&G Bulb Duster 1150 and direct the dust into the cracks in the wall where you are seeing the insects enter and exit. You may also want to have Wasp Freeze on hand for quick knockdown of flying insects in the area.

If you know where the nest is you can use a dust such as Tempo dust puffed into the nest or holes using a hand duster and around the opening of the nest. This type of application usually will kill the nest of wasps over the course of a few days.
Ground bees, also known as digger bees, can be very difficult to control no matter what product you use and they most likely will come back to your property year after year unless you do your part to alter your property to make it unfavorable to the bees. Ground bees prefer dry soils with thin grasses so irrigating the area frequently and correcting any issue that causes your grass to be thin will help deter the bees from nesting. In areas where you do not have grass, a layer of mulch will help deter the bees from nesting. Ground bees are solitary bees and are not very aggressive and are known to be a beneficial insect which is why you will not find any products specifically labeled for this type of bee. Talstar P can help provide some level of control but it will not get rid of all of the ground bees on your property. You should use Talstar P at a 1 oz of product to 1 gallon of water for a 1,000 sq ft area ratio. This will give you the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. Talstar P does not offer an instant knockdown but will kill insects that come into contact with treated areas over a short period of time.
Tempo 1% Dust is our best selling product to eradicate bees. If you know where the opening is where the bees are going in and out, and you dust that opening, the bees will get the dust on the hair on their legs and carry it back to the nesting area. Usually this will eradicate a bee colony within 24 - 48 hours depending on the size. It is best to treat the opening late at night or very early morning when they are all inside and less active. For your safety, if you are allergic, have someone else make the application for you.
Tempo Dust and Delta Dust are both very good for carpenter bees and will work. The main difference between them is that Delta Dust is waterproof and has a different active ingredient than the Tempo Dust does. If you are concerned about water or moisture getting into the area you are treating, Delta Dust is an excellent option. Tempo Dust is also very good and will eliminate the bees as well. Be sure to wait at least 14 days or until there is no longer any activity to plug the holes up.
