Customer Reviews for The Anderson's Turf Fertilizer 0-0-7 with 0.426 Barricade

Homeowners have limited choices in pre-emergent herbicides that are available to them at a reasonable price. Certainly there are some outstanding commercial pre-emergents but these are often not readily available to homeowners and are also outrageously expensive. In my experience, Barricade (prodiamine) is one of the best ones for homeowners and definitely has the longest half life. Unfortunately, it seems like Barricade is starting to become expensive, but for some reason this particular formulation is still reasonably priced. That may be because it is advertised as a fertilizer, although the potash component is really just there as a carrier for the pre-emergent. As such, this is very easy to apply using a fertilizer spreader, which a homeowner is more likely to have than a high volume sprayer.

Put down the full bag rate on my Bermuda lawn in late October 2021 (here in San Diego, CA). My lawn stayed about 90-95% weed-free throughout the winter and still looks great now in Feb 2022. This is a BIG difference from the previous winter when my lawn was full of broadleaf weeds (I put down pre-emergent too late). Everything I've used from The Andersons has been top notch and this product is no exception. Great value for the money.

I contacted DoMyOwn to determine which of their Pre-emergence products would work best for my new lawn. I recently purchased and clear cut a tract of land and this past summer set about getting a mixed, Bermuda and Zoysia turf started. I wanted a product that would stop crabgrass and eliminate broad leaf weeds from getting established. I had selected one of their products but after a conversation with their Pro's, quickly learned that using a product with a nitrogen base additive would possible set me back to ground zero if it is was applied before the growing season arrived. I learned from them that a nitrogen fertilizer is stored in the blades of the grass in a water solution and if the temperature dropped below freezing, it blades would be killed. I had always dealt with weed in a post emergent timeframe and thanks to the Pro's I didn't make a horrible mistake that would have set me back a full year. I used the Anderson's Turf Fertilizer that has a 0-0-7 rating on nutrients to avoid any Nitrogen and Phosphorus with a 7 for Potassium which is stored in the soil for use by the plants during growing season. Shortly, i will see the results of my labor when the Barricade takes over and causes the weed seed not to germinate. We have had a good winter with just the right amount of rain to get the Anderson product into the soil and provide a surface barrier against last falls weed seed deposits. I also bought a core aerator attachment for my yard tractor which I used to open up the subsoil areas to both the fertilizer and the Barricade which should help the process. I am now positioned to add a good turf building fertilizer in March along with another round of core aeration.

not available locally (Florida panhandle), but highly recommended for my zoysia lawn after a soil test. price seemed right and the free shipping clinched the purchase. arrived quickly via FedEx. applied as evening temperature dropped and awaiting results. I had good results last season so expect the same this year.
