We have St Augustine grass and a chinch bug problem. Is this a good time to treat for chinch bugs? We do have brown spots.

Answer:

For chinch bugs, Merit Granules should be applied prior to the hatching of the first instar nymphs. If the application is not made prior to the egg hatch or when adults or large nymphs are present and actively tunnelling, apply Merit 0.5G insecticide combination with remedial insecticide to minimize damage to turf.
