Chad from Spring, Tx writes

The Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone label says not to apply to St. Augustine during "Spring green up." Is this time period defined in any way?

I'm in Southeast Texas and my lawn is green due to early fertilizing. My neighbors lawns are still greening up. Is March 23 too early to apply and will it damage my St. Augustine grass?

Answer:

Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone should not be applied to lawns when they are coming out of dormancy and just starting to green up in the spring.  If your lawn is already out of this transition period you can go ahead and spray.  If not you would need to wait until completely out of dormancy to apply.
