The legs on my bed are square 3.4" X 3.4". Will the round ones work or do I need the XL?

Answer:

The normal climbup interceptors are 4.5 inches across in the center of the trap.  This should be no problem to fit a 3.4 inch square bed post into the normal interceptor.
