Gail from United States, Spanish Fort, Alabama (coastal Alabama) writes

The Local Extension Service recommends Fertilome Broadleaf Weed Control for Chamberbitter in ornamental beds.

Do you recommend applying to bare ground before mulching? Will it be effective applied in March, when Chamberbitter sprouts in May?

Answer:

Yes, it is recommended Fertilome Broadlaf Weed Control with Gallery will work best when put below the mulch layer. Do not apply pre-emergence herbicides in beds where new plants will be installed, as plant root development may be inhibited. Depending on the region you are in, March is usually a good time to apply pre-emergents. Because preemergence herbicides prevent seedlings from developing, they are an effective tool against annual weeds. However, they will not affect established weeds. Timing is critical. They must be applied prior to seed germination. Please check with the Local Extension office for exact time in your region that is good to apply pre-emergents.
