The Solo 452 Backpack Sprayer is used to do over winter treatments and mosquito treatments.  Today, we're gonna show you how to fill it up and get it started. There's a few things you need to know before you start the Solo 451 up. If you fill it up with liquid before you check the shut off switch, all the liquid will run out of the sprayer, so you first want to check to see that the shut off switch is in the off position, so you don't spill liquid all over the floor.  Second, you want to check is that that the on/off switch is in the off position before we beginning filling it with liquid.  In order to fill up the Solo 451. The first thing we want to do is take the cap off the back. As you look inside, you will see a screen that prevents big depree from falling in.

The Solo 451 is a 4 gallon backpack sprayer, so what we want to do is fill it up exactly half way full of water. After we filled it halfway with water, we are going to take our chemical, in this case it's Talstar P with Bifenthrin which is mixed one ounce per gallon. We want to put in 4 ounces. Then, we will top off the sprayer with the additional 2 gallons of water required for the proper mix.  The Solo 451 is gear a little bit different than most lawn mowers and other yard equipment. When you start the 451, you want to do is gently pull it til you feels it's tight then slowly pull steady. Do not chuck it. It will break the string and the inner controls.  You just want to pull it slow and smooth. It's geared to start that way. We recommend that you place the 451 Solo Back Pack on either the picnic table or the tailgate of a truck before placing it on your back. The reason we suggest this is because four gallons of water is 40 pounds plus the backpack is another 40, so you've got 80 pounds.  You don't want to lose your balance, slip, or hurt your back.

At the very end of the Solo 451, you'll find a setting between 1 and 4. This controls the amount of liquid that is added into the air stream.  One being the least amount of liquid and four being the most. I would suggest you starting at one and see what it looks like, if you need to add more liquid to the stream you can change it at that time. The 451 has a pistol grip handle and on it is a trigger. The trigger controls the throttle. If you pull it, the throttle will go up, giving you more airstream. If you let up, then it will go to idle. Also, right there that you can flip with your thumb is the on/off switch which controls the flow of the pesticide  into the air stream.

The 451 can be used to spray the tree line for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes live underneath leaves. So, what you'll want to do is spray from the ground up to about 6-8 ft and make sure you get the underneath of all the leafs. As you'll notice, the 451 does an excellent job of getting up under everything.  You can also use the 451 to spray your house to prevent Lady Bugs and Stink Bugs from overwintering.
