I have a main floor bathroom exhaust fan that vents through flexible duct that passes through to the outside above a ceiling where Drione Dust was applied to solve a bee problem in July 2008. Would a contractor be in danger doing a fan replacement? What should I caution him to do or not do?
There are three basic active ingredients in Drione dust, Pyrethrins, Piperonyl Butoxide, Amorphous Silica Gel. Both the pyrethrins and Piperonyl Butoxide have lost their potency and should no longer be an issue for anyone. The Amorphous Silica Gel however does not fade away over time, it is a desiccant and can be irritating if it gets in your eyes or if it is inhaled. People working around these old deposits of dust should wear eye protection and a dust mask and should wash their hands before eating, drinking or using the toilet.
