I have a very large oak tree that is swelling at the base. Some parts of the bark appear darker in places and the bark itself seems "swollen". Could this be a fungus? If so, what can I do to treat it? I really don't want to lose this tree.
Unfortunately we do not have a way to diagnose the tree. You should contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff. He/she should be able to help diagnose your tree and suggest what needs to be done depending on the disease. We apologize we could not be of more help!
