Product labels are indeed vague in many cases as this gives the applicator leeway to use different concentrations for different situations. You should use the higher usage rate for heavy infestations, faster knockdowns and longer lasting residuals and lower usage rates for maintenance sprays. You will need to use higher volumes of water to get the product over thick, dense vegetation. If you are treating your lawn for ticks we recommend you use the higher specified usage rate of 0.8 fl oz Permethrin SFR for 1,000 sq ft using whatever volume of water is needed. If you are treating up close to your home you are permitted to use the .5% emulsion (1 2/3 fl. oz. per gallon of water) per 1,000 sq ft as a perimeter treatment.
