What product will kill creeping charlie but be safe for my lilacs, spruce and my pets?

This is the first year we have creeping charlie, and it is spreading quickly. It is all around our lilacs and has now spread to our line of spruce. We have young kids and 2 large dogs who play in the yard so we need a product that is safe for kids, dogs and surrounding vegetation. A patient at my office referred me to your website for help.

Answer:

When treating for creeping charlie, we would recommend doing a spot treatment with a glyphosate or round up type product. If this isn't an option, we would recommend using Speedzone herbicide which is labeled for selectively killing weeds in turf grass. These products should not be used when children and/or animals are around. Once they have dried, it is safe for them to return to the area. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
