Leon from State College, Pa writes

When using Acephate 97 UP and a spreader sticker on my orchids for thrips, could I just spray over the tops of the plant and get the same systemic effect as spraying the whole plant?

I am using it at the rate of 1/2 tsp/gallon. I have been told that systmics only go up in the plant, so I have to spray the whole plant. However, I do grow plants in empty fishtanks.

Answer:

Since the label application instructions for Acephate 97UP recommend full coverage for thrip control on orchids, this is what we would recommend to do as best you are able for the best insect control. You want to get as full coverage as possible and then you can retreat as often as every 14 days.
