The gap changes a bit depending on where around the house perimeter you are. The siding blocks the ability to work on it from anywhere but the crawl space where there is easy access and you can get to the top block skirting that is around our manufactured home. Was wondering if I could put in stuff it loosely then spray foam or if I would be better using hardware cloth strips. Not sure how rigid the copper mesh is (does it hold its own shape?) Not sure if it only deters mice when it is thick?
Since mice can fit through any opening 1/4 inch in size, using exclusion products is very effective. Stuf-Fit Copper Mesh or Xcluder Single Rolls are able to be cut and and will conform to any opening, crack and crevice around your home and in your crawl space. When also treating your crawl space, you will also want to use the exclusion products around pipes, cables, or structural voids around the house. Cut the material 2 inches wider than the opening, fold to fit into opening as best you can. Then using a blunt object such as a screw driver, push the Copper Mesh or Xcluder into the opening till flush or a little bit below.
