I blasted this twice onto my yard before overseeding my centipede lawn. I have many seedlings now that are about 1/4” to 1/2” tall. Unfortunately, bermudagrass has started to pop up and spreading like wildfire throughout the lawn. I want to hit it again, but don’t want to risk killing the seedlings. Based on the chemistry of how this works, it seems like it should have no effect, but I want to make sure.
Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is not labeled to be used on Centipede or really any other grasses. If the Centipede has already emerged, the product will more than likely damage it. Unfortunately since Bermuda & Centipede are so closely related there is not a selective product to remove one from the other. Keep in mind, Bermudagrass is very difficult to kill off and eliminate completely and usually requires multiple repeat applications and could take a season or two to full elimainte. The best option would be to wait until the new centipeded has established (after 2-3 mowings or 30 days) and then spot treat any actively growing bermuda with a non selctive glyphosate herbicide adn then reseed with centipede on any barespots after 2 weeks.
